I’m planning on moving to Thailand by July/August. My professional background is in mental health counselling, but I don’t think there is much of a market for that there, so I recently got TEFL certified and am looking at teaching as my entry point. I do have a bachelors degree in psychology and hoping to getting my masters aventually

Ideally, I would like to secure a job before moving so I can enter on the proper work visa. Worst case I’ve considered entering on a tourist visa and applying for jobs once I’m there, but I’m a bit worried about the risks with that approach.

In an ideal world, I’d love to get a DTV because I do have a small online business, but from what I read online (correct me pls if im wrong!) , I would need to show 500,000 THB in my bank account and realistically I do not think I’ll have that by July.

For someone in my situation, what would you recommend as the most realistic and safest path? I want to avoid any risk of denial of entry, since I’m not truly coming as a tourist. Im 25 and I'm not really use to this whole thing so I just want to make sure I meet the proper steps...

Thank you in advance for any advice.

Our Visa Plans

Given the tightened immigration and work-permit enforcement in Thailand, we’d appreciate some real-world advice on whether our plan is feasible.

I will be entering Thailand on the Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) as a remote freelancer (foreign clients only). My wife will initially enter on a tourist visa for her to look for a part time teaching role, while she studies online for her teaching qualification. If she decides to teach locally, the plan would be for a school to sponsor her work permit. If she does not work and only studies, we would look to transfer her onto a spousal/dependent visa under my DTV.

Does this approach (tourist → either work visa or spousal/dependent) work in practice under current enforcement, or are we likely to run into problems with conversions, overstays, or visa runs?

We want to do this cleanly and legally from the start — any recent experiences would be very helpful. Thank you

So i'm interviewing for several teaching positions. Most of them pay about $1000-$1200 USD monthly for about 24 hours of work per week. Im also going to be doing my remote masters so I will have some.student loans supplementing my income to around $2300/month Total which i understand is doable but not luxurious.

My question is about the contract. Most contracts are from may to March and then you can be hired on again starting the following may. But am I expected to leave for those two months? Or is there an extension that would allow me to stay for those 60 days until i secure the next teaching contract?

Hi there,

I’d love to ask for some advice about job options for my husband. He’s on a marriage visa and is trying to decide whether to find a remote job based in the US (most of those won’t allow him to stay in Thailand long-term), or look for work here in Thailand as a foreigner.

He has a master’s degree in biology from one of the UCs (University of California), but doesn’t have a teaching credential beyond TA experience. Would teaching biology at an international school be possible for him? We’re based in Korat.

Any advice or recommendations would be really appreciated! 🙏💛

Hey guys, got a gig working in Bangkok teaching, so been recommended to do the border run in Laos for the non-B visa. Thing is I’ve been working in Cambodia the last two years, and my police check from there expires on the 16/08, which is next Saturday. To get another one will cost me an arm and a leg as I will have to get it externally, are they picky on validity?

Thanks!

Hello, I have recently been working as a teacher in Thailand and have now changed jobs. Before leaving, I intentionally did not extend or renew my visa, as I wanted my work permit and Non-B visa from my previous employer to be cancelled. I have returned to the UK for the summer with the intention of applying for a new Non-B visa to begin my new teaching role in Thailand next month.

However, when I departed Thailand, I did not receive an exit stamp in my passport. I am concerned that without this, my previous visa and work permit may not be properly cancelled, which could affect the processing of my new visa.

I would appreciate any advice or assistance on how to ensure my previous visa is officially cancelled so that I can proceed with my new application.

Is it possible to open a bank account with just a Non-B visa? I’ve recently accepted a teaching job, and while I already have my Non-B visa, I’m still waiting for my work permit to be issued

Hi all.

I need some assistance in applying for a DTV visa.

Me and my husband is from S.A and he work in Thailand as a teacher.

I have a Ed visa study Thai but it ends now and I have to get another visa.

He's school don't assist with a letter to follow him on Non O Visa and I know to run borders with a tourist visa will also just be temp and short term so I was looking into a DTV visa.

I applied for Preply but not active yet but like to start to working online with DTV visa

My question is.. If I don't have a proof of income now will Thai Immigrations approve my registration?

I also notice they request a registred buss documents. Will Preply approved assist on application?

I notice the amout of 600 000 THB saving in 6 months bank statements and its not the problem.Only my recent income and registration.

Any advise will be so much appreciated.

Thank you🧘‍♀️
