Be aware there’s a new act of parliament which will link your DWP data with border force. Came into force in the last few months.

The Fraud, Error, and Recovery Act 2025.

You might still get away with it but if you don’t the DWP will fuck you.

It’s retrospective too. 😬

That’s pretty decent. Changwattana wouldn’t post mine so it was two trips which takes 3 hours each for me.

There was a bloke earlier who was so

‘principled’ he was willing to spend hours of his time changing bank accounts to save 100 baht.

He considered the charge ‘tax’. 🤣

Thats my plan too.

But the laws in question that I think OP is talking about are Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 and the Public Authorities (Fraud, Error and Recovery) Act 2025.

In layman’s terms DWP can access border force data. But I’m just a laymen and it’s just come into force.

Is that because of the way the money is routed? Via a local partner.

My last Wise transfer receipt to Krungsri bank states the banking partner was Kasikorn.

I’m guessing here but wise have pools or local currency reserves and just transfer that locally rather than SWIFT.

I did it last month. Converted from a tourist visa to non O.

I lurked here reading posts from yourself and others. Did my own research. Made a checklist which I double checked with a call to immigration.

Super easy and quick.

Funds season in two weeks. I’ve got another checklist pre prepared for my next trip to get my EOS.

I don’t understand what an agent would have bought to the table. I’m perfectly capable of gathering a small amount of documents myself.

I went in person last month to the DLT in Bangkok with a medical cert, cert of residence, passport and relevant copies, driving licence and IPD. I got the medical cert at a random clinic in the street. It was basically a blood pressure test. (I needed my passport at the clinic.)

(The DLT pushed the IDP back accross the desk. Didn’t look at it or make a copy)

The DLT gave me a link to the website below which was 5 videos and some questions and an appointment to come back in two days. The completed questions gave me a QR code to present on my return.

******************************

Second visit I presented the barcode. Took a series of easy physical tests and walked out with my Thai licence within an hour.

Edit. I had downloaded an app called DLT smart queue to make an appointment. It didn’t work for me in Bangkok which is why I went in person.

In general I really like Cambodia and its people.

But Bangkok to Phnom Penh is was too much of a jump for me. I prefer more commercialisation and modernity.

Recently got a conversion to non O. It was super simple. A little paper chase an hour at the bank and a few hours at immigration and £50.

I got one a few weeks ago in Bangkok. Just needed the TM30 and passport copies as Mr Stanners said. Had to pick it up a week later. I got two though actually . One for bank and one for driving licence.

Then I needed that certificate and a rental agreement for the bank account. Because I’m also staying at the Mrs house, I let her deal with that. Basically a few copies of the mortgage and her ID I think. Get her to check with the bank before you go in.
