I’ve decided to get a Thai drivers license. My wife and I live in Phichit. I have US drivers license with motorcycle stamp, I have my IDP from AAA that is current. My question is I have a yellow book and pink thai ID card. Will that suffice as a certificate of residency?
I’m looking for reliable agent to help renew my Thai drivers license in bangkok area. I was just told by the Nonthaburi immigration office that they will no longer provide a letter of residency to travelers here on tourist visas even though i have had a condo here for 2 years . No scammers Bangkok area
Drivers license renewal. I have a DTV and a 2 year Thai license which will expire in a few months. I've read that some DTV holders have had success in receiving a 5 year license when they go to renew. Does anyone have experience? I'm in Chiang Mai if that matters
Update.... I just attended a bank interview, to update my profile, after asking on the phone for a yellow book and passport. I thought I'd take the time to put people's minds at ease. I told my Thai language support team to go shopping , because sometimes things get lost in the translation. I was asked for my passport then my yellow book. I handed over my passport and gave her a blank stare. She then asked for my driver's licence. Job done, painless. A completely different conversation that was had on the phone. No need for a yellow book at all. Despite the fact that I have one. This is how matters should be handled, not shutting down accounts without explanation.
Has anyone applied for a new driver's license on a DTV? The required forms are clear to me.
I want my scooter license, and will have to do tests as I don't have that from my home country. I question whether I will have trouble because I don't speak, read or write thai. Will I be able to do these tests? I do not want to hire an agent if I don't have to.
Two questions on getting a Thai driver's license with my IDP.
1st question:
I tried making an appointment with the DLT office online but no luck. So if I walk-in to one of the Bangkok offices (Bangchak or Chatuchak), am I able to get it done the same day (assuming I have all necessary docs), or will I likely get a queue number for a later date/time depending on their availability? I wanted to plan accordingly as some of the documents (residence cert, medical cert) have a 30 days validity.
2nd question:
I have read that you don't need to take the 1 hour video training if you have an IDP unlike a regular driver's license from your home country you are converting from. Is this true?
Have you all been getting your bank accounts closed if you had your account before you got your DTV? I’m scared to go into my branch and hand them my passport. I use my ibanking quite a bit. Any info on this? Is it in fact bangkok banks policy to close your account if you’re on a dtv?
I’m gonna try the drivers license trick. That is a god idea. Unfortunately I was just forced to renew a 5 year (my secomd 5 year) to a 2 year also due to Dtv. I wonder if the 2 year license will give them a heads up to request my passport?
