You need to fill an E arrival card before hand (google it)

Cambodia you can get USD with your credit card straight from the ATM. Or Riels, the local currency.

Both will be accepted to pay for anything, but USD has to be pristine or they won't take it if there is the slightest damage to it.

Why would they ask a proof of residence in thailand to issue a Visa that's supposed to be used to come to thailand in the future once it's issued?

It's not a dumb question but definitely you misunderstood the way this works.

You do not have to apply from your home country, unless maybe you have a North Korean passport or something 😅
