Can you edit the application at the embassy? I put the place of issue as Shanghai since this is where the passport was issued. Doesn't make sense to me that I would need to put America because it's an American passport, they know it came from America. Same with any other country. Why have that on there if the answer is just the country of the passport?

It's a holiday here so no one will look at it until Monday. So I plan to go there first thing in the morning to change it.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user asks whether they can edit the place of issue on their visa application after mistakenly listing Shanghai instead of the USA, leading to confusion over the necessary information. Responses clarify that once submitted, applications generally cannot be edited and that the correct approach depends on the passport's reported details.

Your application is gonna be rejected. If it's an American passport then place of issue should have been USA.

The country issued is always the club try the passport is from. It is confusing but that's the way it is 🤷‍♂️

Does the passport state it was issued in Shangai?

What does it say in your passport for place of issue? This is what you're supposed to input.

I saw your same comment on another post. It was issued to me in Shanghai. I didn't ask what I should put because I've already read all the other posts and comments after it's too late. I'm asking about editing it.

You can't edit. But I think Shanghai is right. As long as you selected your country as country of issue. In my application I chose Costa Rica as country of issue and Seoul as place of issue and had no issues. (Nedless to say, my passport literally says Place of issue: Seoul).

Nope once you have submitted the application and paid you're done, NONE of the data that was entered can be edited

I'm going to go try anyway. It just seems nuts that the office that will accept or reject it can't edit the information or make a note on the application.

too late. Can’t be edited. While the local embassy reviews and approves, the system is managed by the MFA in Thailand.

you can try BUT there's no way to go into the system to edit data you've entered (or that auto fills after you scanned your passport) once you pay and submit the application

Many many MANY people have been rejected for errors in data entry and had to re-apply and pay again
