when you apply for DTV they ask you for an intended date of arrival in thailand.

I don't have to search, I got a DTV already. I participate to help those in the process of getting one.

Forums would have pinned "meta posts" that people could read before asking a questions, where information was curated and stayed up to date.

Yes, as it is now, people have to use the search function. It's far from optimal though.

In your country, are you not required to register your business as an independent contractor?

For example when I applied I provided proof that I had a legal entity in France to allow me to bill my clients.

I thought it may be what they are asking you for.

About the business registration, do you work for a company with an employment contract, or do you work as an independent contractor for one or multiple companies?

In the second scenario, I think they are asking for your own business registration.
