If you want a work permit do you have an employer that is able to get you one? If so, when the borders re-open get the paperwork from your prospective employer and get a non-B visa from a Consulate. Otherwise it looks like an Ed visa for studying or another tourist visa, which may be declined as you're not a tourist. A final option is Thai Elite if you can afford it.
If you're in Bangkok you have plenty of choice. My boy is at a city centre international school (British curriculum) and it's affordable. PM me if you want the details.
We'll know for sure by the end of the month. It will take at least a month (July) for everyone to leave and flights will need to start booking by 1 July. Another extension is certainly possible.
Joel D Greene: You miss my point. It was said a few days ago, but all he was referring to was the previous policy that existed before the borders closed to foreigners completely. No one knows what will happen in June/July until something official is announced. Either the borders will stay closed and the amnesty extended past 31 July, or there will be some type of relaxation allowing people to do visa runs.
An announcement will be made within the next few weeks (hopefully sooner). Either the amnesty will be extended again, or some borders will re-open to allow border/visa runs.
CELTA is a TESL/TESOL course, run by Cambridge. It's the most internationally accepted TESL qualification. You can do it at IH in Bangkok. It's not really necessary for teaching in Thailand, particularly as it is for teaching English to adults, not kids. But it's a great course, especially if you've never taught before. It's not cheap, takes a month to complete and is intensive. You have to produce lesson plans, teach observed classes (and accept the feedback from your peers) and do written assignments.
I would say (and hope) the land border between Thailand and Laos will open before July. There may be restrictions on who can come into Thailand, but I think it will open before the airports do.
You don't have to do anything, but remember that you will have to leave Thailand before 31 July if you don't extend your permission to stay. If the borders don't open before 31 July, the amnesty may be extended but there is no guarantee of this. Personally, I would go to Immigration and do your extension if you can, assuming you plan on continuing to study here. Immigration after 31 July will be a scrum!
No one knows. My guess is that a lot will depend on which country you're coming from and the Covid situation there. Mandatory quarantine in government facility will not be practical. I think some flights and possibly the Laos/Cambodia/Myanmar border may re-open next month.
Nobody knows! My guess is that it might once the public holidays are over on 7 May, or from Monday 11 May. There really is no longer any reason why it is closed.
