What should I enter on the TM6 card upon arriving in Thailand with a new passport while holding an old passport with my visa?

If you arrive at Bangkok Airport with a brand new passport (having got a new passport while back home), do you enter the new passport details on the TM6 card, even though your Extension of Stay stamp and Re-entry permit are in the old (cancelled) passport? I understand that both passports need to be presented to the IO, but confused about which number to use on the Arrival card.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When arriving in Bangkok with a new passport, it is advised to enter the details of the new passport on the TM6 arrival card, while also presenting both the new and old passports to the Immigration Officer (IO). The IO can stamp the new passport to link it with the visa and extension of stay in the old passport. It is essential to update your bank account details associated with the old passport number to avoid issues with international transactions.

Leave those fields on the TM.6 arrival/departure card blank and hand them both passports. ;)

Immigration can put a stamp in your new passport linking the old passport (and visa) to the new one, everything is then done with your new passport number. I got mine stamped at BKK airport immigration and always carry both.

. New passport, which is where the stamp will go. The IO will probably be grateful if you direct him/her to your visa/extension in your old passport and explain that you have a new passport because the old one is full. It'll save you both about 2 minutes! I have had this situation a few times (as I spent my life shuttling between Thailand and Laos, I have had more passports than most people have had t-shirts).

You might want to tell your bank if you have one.

I’m happy with this page and maybe once complained. You do a great job Robert, just sometimes too closed minded.

the difference? The difference is that your passport number changes when you get a new passport. So the number associated with your bank account becomes obsolete and you need to update it with the bank.

Why this page has to extend, you can start your own page, I will give you a name as helping hand. Thai banking advice.

what’s the difference. A number if its passport or another is just a number

Thai bank accounts have the account holders ID number associated with their account. Many foreign nationals obviously don’t have Thai ID numbers, therefore the banks use our passport numbers. These numbers change when we get a new passport. This new number then needs to be updated with our Thai banks.

I tried to Make a transfer last year and my account was registered or associated with my old expired passport. I had to register my Thai accounts under the new passport number before i could do it and at a main kbank branck. Didn’t affect any ATM withdraws but it does affect international and other large transfers. I think VISA advice should be expanded a bit for maybe other passport issues.

Tell the bank what?

You use the details of the new passport as this is the only valid one. You will get stamped in the new passport. When in Thailand visit Immigration to get your Extension of Stay and re-entry permit changed to your new passport.
