Can I wait until renewing my Extension to present a new passport or do I need to transfer my visa stamp first?

My Extension expires late November. If I get a new passport in the summer, can I wait until it's time to renew my Extension (late Oct) and then just present the new passport, or do I have to transfer the stamp before the Extension is renewed?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The question addresses the process of handling a Visa Extension in Thailand when receiving a new passport. The discussion indicates that upon obtaining a new passport, the individual should receive a letter from their embassy to facilitate the transfer of the visa stamp. While some immigration offices may allow waiting until the next Extension renewal, it's advisable to handle the transfer beforehand, especially considering the 90-day reporting requirements.

If you get your new passport you will also get a letter from your embassy with the reason for new passport and request of transfer the Extension of Stay. You can do this directly but some Immigration Offices don't care if you wait till your next 90 days report.

Noted. My passport doesn't expire, it's just nearly full. So I'll try and time getting a new one to coincide with doing my 90 day and Extension renewal at the same time in the new passport.

IF you have a new passport you GO to the immigration office and get the stamps transferred.

You do it right after you get the new passport OR at your next 90 day report.

You CANNOT do 90 day reports on the old passport number once you get a new one. You need to transfer the stamps meaning you can't wait until your next extension application to move the stamps :/

Great. So I could do my 90 day as normal in July, then get the new passport, then go to Immigration in mid-Oct and renew my Extension and do the next 90 day in the new passport.

You can do in Bangkok. But you have to make the trip, no internet report or mail report.

Thanks. Can I wait until the Extension is due to be renewed and then just get the new one in the new passport (thus avoiding an additional trip out to Immigration for the transfer)?

yeah my passport runs out in October, I’m just waiting to do my next 90 day ( July 5th ) then I’ll apply for new passport , I’m told it takes about 3-4 weeks , but then same question as you . Do I go to immigration straight away to get stamps transferred ?

Yes. Although I do it by post, so they only need a copy of the ID page and Extension stamp.
