And because he's Dutch, he still can get the affidavit for proof of monthly income from the Dutch Embassy in BKK.

Yep, y'r right James. The Hague is an embassy. Consulate is in Amsterdam.

And if you don't want to be send to Europe, many times I read some tips over here to first fly to a neighbour country and then from there: or a flight to BKK or use a landborder.

, is it again different per imm. office ? In Korat I just hand over my completed TM47 and passport. Ofcourse the TM6, visa, last yearextension and tm30 notification slip as also the last 90 day slip are stapled in my passport. But never needed/asked for copies...

And, non of my business though, if you can affort so much trips and free time in a year, maybe considder an elite visa (500,000฿ for 5 years).

If you are 50+ maybe a non imm o visa is better.
