Hi all,
A Canadian friend (over 50 and retired) wanted to visit Thailand for about 5 months. After talking together, we decided the STV (Special Tourist Visa) would be okay.
He bought the STV AND passed the Thailand Pass with al Canadian insurances, and is in Thailand now for more than 2 months. Today he went to Korat immigration to get his first (and last) 90-day extension (He only needed about 40 days, but okay). Now the IO told him he needs a Thai healthcare insurance for this extension. (Although insured 'for life', with his Canadian insurance as accepted by the Thailand Pass).
Is this a rule/requirement indeed ?
If this is, maybe a remark for other people who came in on an STV.....
Then I think many people don't realize this.
Thanks and regards.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Canadian expat's friend, who is over 50 and retired, is currently in Thailand on a Special Tourist Visa (STV). After successfully passing the Thailand Pass and staying for over two months, he sought to extend his stay by 90 days. However, the immigration officer informed him that he needs to provide proof of a Thai healthcare insurance policy for the extension, despite having Canadian insurance. The inquiry addresses whether this is indeed a requirement, possibly highlighting a crucial aspect that other STV holders may not be aware of.
