What are the latest insurance requirements for a Non Imm O Visa holder in Thailand and how early can I apply for an extension?

Dear experts, once again it is time for me to get a new visa extension and I kindly ask for your advice. I am an Austrian holder of a Non Imm 0 A visa ( granted 2018) and live on yearly extensions (latest one expires Sept. 29th). Now my insurer tells me that there might be changes in the insurance requirements starting Sept. 1st. Does anyone know details about this or is it just the usual Thai blahblah? The next question: how long before expiry date can I get a next yearly extension and so maybe avoid any insurance problems? I would dearly appreciate your learned opinion. Thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, an Austrian holder of a Non Imm O Visa, is seeking advice about new insurance requirements for visa extensions expected to take effect on September 1. Comments indicate that while current insurance coverage (40,000 baht outpatient, 400,000 baht inpatient) suffices for upcoming applications, a new policy will require higher coverage (around 3 million baht). The user inquires about the ability to apply for extensions before the current visa's expiry to mitigate potential insurance issues. Several comments affirm that applying for extensions 30-45 days prior to expiry is generally accepted by immigration offices.

Thank you all for your helpful comments. Yesterday I had a talk with a Kanchanaburi Immigration higher-up: 400.

; I heard it too conc. Insurance. Also heard that it doesn't have to be a Thai one with the exact amounts. You maybe can avoid the requirement with just going to y'r imm. office before sept. 1.

Most imm. offices allow you to ask the year extension 30 days before the old one expires. Ask y'r imm. office because there are imm. offices which allow you to ask 45 days before. I read it sometimes happens the imm. office asks to return with only a couple of days left.

Doesn't the "O" Visa not require insurance??? And is it possible for you to change over from an "OA Visa"??? I'm fairly new at this myself and don't blame you for asking a bit. 👍

you are correct the Non O visa based on retirement does not require insurance coverage at the present time. But unfortunately you cannot go from a Non O to a Non OA in country, you must break the link.

My Immigration told me this information:

"For now, the Thai medical insurance still the same. Coverage 40,000 baht outpatient and 400,000 baht inpatient. However, There is new policy about the insurance will be release on 1 Oct. 2022. Coverage 100,000 $".

Ask your immigration.
