Not exactly true, its never been a requirement to apply in your home or passport bearing country. There's two stipulations for application. You can't be in Thailand, and you need to apply wherever you are currently located. To be fair, money is likely exactly the reason. Its Thailand that ends up with the money since its their embassy, so its really no shocker that they made it easily accessible.

I didnt even know this was an option. I always just leave every 6 months to visit somewhere. Its nice to travel anyways.

You dont need thai bank statements to prove expenditures for write offs. It's nice to have if you get audited, but you can still prove expenditure through other means in that rare case.

If you don't have a bank account in Thailand, you didnt "bring" the money here. Keep your money abroad where you're employed, spend it here from that bank. Clean and simple.

I think you're confusing your stamp with your requirement for 90 day checkin. Just because your stamp says 6 months, you still need to check. in

I got mine in Phnom Penh. Took a little over a month. I was actually flying out of there giving up and the same day I was flying out they approved me. Just be patient or like Andi said, shoot them an email.
