What should I do if I misunderstood my DTVisa stamp during re-entry to Thailand?

ORIGINAL POSTER
Dear group

I’ve been a DTVisa holder since 28th of August 2025 and didn’t leave Thailand until mid December last year. It was on Christmas Eve when I passed the immigration at Suvarnabhumi / BKK airport. All immigration counters were tremendously overrun and queues seemed endless. I want to emphasize, that it was my first time to re-renter Thailand within my DTVisa. When handing my passport to the immigration officer, I also did lay down the personalized eVISA print that one should bring when the initial DTVisa stamp is received (which was 2nd of September in my case). I just wanted to make sure, that I can offer literally all of the documents authority’s could ask one for when checking your VISA status. After my passport and the mentioned eVISA print were present on the counter I grabbed for my phone to look up the DTAC (digital arrival card) on it. When doing this (while my eyes were only focusing my phone), the officer allegedly did the following: re stamping my passport, without asking for my DTAC, for another 6 months of DTVisa. However, believe it or not, I didn’t take notice of that and was just surprised that she already handed me back my documents without even asking for the DTAC with a stressed "tee nee" ( = there you go?). I did neither hear her stamping nor did I notice that she was actually writing down something in my passport. Not to mention, that BKKs immigration counter area was loud as hell on 24th of December.

Now, mid of January, I was about to get my papers together for an extension of my current 6-month-DTVisa that is supposed to end on 28th of February. Since I was completely unaware of what was done to my current DTVisa on Christmas Eve, I had to trace back that it must have been the immigration officer’s „mistake“ to think, that I would have asked for my initial 6 months of DTVisa when encountering her on 24th of Dec. ? I really don't know what to make out of this and the narration of what she might have thought when stamping my passport is pure speculation.

Can anyone recall a similar scenario or report if this just went terribly wrong since the immigration officer did misinterpret my offered documents? I did read about some other DTVisa holders’s stories in this group that local Royal Immigration Offices would sometimes tend to fend off when a foreigner shows up with a „maverick“ case.

I hope I don’t ask for too much when I enquire for any advise on this. Is it likely that they will be able to comprehend plus resolve the „matter“?

Thank you very much for your attention & engagement. I’d be more than happy to receive any advice on this matter, khrap 🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
An expat sought advice regarding their confusion over a DTVisa extension after re-entering Thailand. They unintentionally received a new 6-month extension at Suvarnabhumi Airport during a busy period and were unaware of the new stamp due to lack of communication from the immigration officer. Despite their concerns, several commenters clarified that the process was normal: every time a DTVisa holder re-enters Thailand, they receive a new 6-month stamp regardless of prior visa history. The commentators reassured the original poster that the current stay is valid until June, not February as they initially thought.
Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC)

WARNING: Only trust Thai government websites with .go.th domains or Thai agent websites with .co.th or .in.th domains, as these require verified Thai registration and cannot be registered anonymously.

The official TDAC form is available at tdac.immigration.go.th, which uses the official .go.th government domain.

The services by AGENTS CO., LTD. does NOT charge any fees for arrivals within 72 hours. If you need to book more than 72 hours in advance, there is a service fee of $8.

Do not trust other sites pretending to be a trustworthy agency. Pay attention to delivery time - the service operated by AGENTS CO., LTD. has 1 minute delivery time for arrivals within 72 hours.

Don't fall for sites pretending to be agents.co.th or the official government tdac.immigration.go.th website. Always double-check the exact domain in your browser.

Scam services may take days to process your application, others may not even do anything. With these TDAC scam services you also need to worry about double charges.

One thing that make would it less confusing for all including both immigration officers and traveller/immigrant for DTV

Is instead of stamping a whole new visa each time you enter/exit Thailand.

That they instead let the existing stamp continue and add re entry permit on it.

Would avoid having bunch of new visa expiry dates and filling passport page.

As technically DTV doesn’t have re-entry permit/facility - you just simply get a fresh new one each time you enter (which works like a de-facto re entry facility but not an atual one)

A true re-entry facility would mean your existing stamp validity date of 6 months would remain when existing/returning Thailand - like how the other long term visas operate with re-entry.

And I think this is what causes some confusion amongst both parties.

What would be more ideal is If a new stamp only granted if the travellers previous DTV visa date expires upon rentering.

If there is days left on existing DTV then they continue to enter on that. If there isn’t or it’s expired then they get a new stamp.

Then at the same time make “onshore” DTV extensions at end of 6 months more streamlined and hassle free

So if your DTV stamp of 6 months expires while onshore then you get extend without having to leave and do a “border run” to reset it.

Would save hassle and confusion on both sides

WhiteRabbit7966 sorry but your suggestion would be more confusing.

The DTV is absolutely simple. Everytime you enter Thailand you will get 180 days. If you just stay 20 days...fine. 68 days...fine. 180 days...fine. When I apply for such a Visa, then I make myself familiar with the rules of the Visa and therefore there should be no confusion.

A comparison to other visa types like non-o doesn't make sense because they are working differently.

Steve Wigdel my point is that every time you get a new “stamp” it’s essentially a new “visa” and an immigration officer can request additional info or clarification each time you get that stamp.

In their eyes they giving you a whole new 6 months each time - opening up potential scrutiny each time

It’s why some may get questions or clarifications asked of them when they re-enter the kingdom.

Might seem simple for yourself however this page is flooded with questions about the topic.

And exactly what are you asking?

I came in yesterday, showed my visa in my phone, got my stamp and left immigration. TDAC links to your passport, they don't need to see it.

I don’t understand what the problem is? You got DTV, you got 6 month stamp, what seams to be the issue?

They never ask for TDAC as long as you have filed it correctly. Tee nee = here. You have a 5-year multiple-entry visa. Each time you enter, you get 6 months' permission to stay. This permission is cancelled when you leave and renewed when you re-enter. Simples!

I think you're confusing your stamp with your requirement for 90 day checkin. Just because your stamp says 6 months, you still need to check. in

02 September 2025 to 28 February 2026 = 180 Days

24 December 2025 to 21 June 2026 = 180 Days

the Thai Entry Stamps at Chiang Mai Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport are correct for that DTV E–Visa valid from 29 August 2025 to 28 August 2030

This is a prime example of people doing zero research on the visa they have, and how it works. Also, no one will ever look at your TDAC as it it (DIGITAL) and is shown on their screen. I need a tylenol and a lay down after reading all that.

I have a somewhat unrelated question:

You have to leave every 6 months with the DTV? how long do you have to leave for?

Technically, you can extend for a further 180 days in country, but it could be a bit of work. Easier to border bounce and return to Thailand. There is no minimum required time out of Thailand.

Whoever helped you get DTV should have let you know what type of visa you are getting and how it works......you get 6month entry every time you arrive in Thailand, from that day your 90days countdown start so after 90days you should submit TM47 unless you leave Thailand before. you can come and go as you wish its always 6months entry.....every time you leave Thailand your 90days clock reset back to 0......legally you cant have bank account on DTV visa, if you had before and still working then you are OK....i think i pretty much cover everything.......

Just nit picking but DTAC is a mobile phone provider. TDAC is the Thai Digital Arrival Card.

The first entry doesn’t continue. 180 days starts every entry. Nothing to do with TDAC they can see it anyways

I assume no departure stamp because he departed via the automatic gates at Suvarnabhumi.

What? 🙃

You got a 180-day stay permit upon entering Thailand on December 24th. Nothing to argue or wonder about.

This is a very confusing post.

You got 180 days stamped, just like you should have, and will get every time you enter on your DTV.

What is the issue you need help with? Your current stay permit is to June. Not February. The February stamp is invalid, since you left the country before that.

24 DEC 25 - 21 JUN 26

Not sure what you’re on about

Looks correct to me for DTV - you entered they stamped you for 6 months. Whatever came before is not relevant. If you left today and came back you would get another stamp for 6 months. They did not ask for your TDAC as it is linked to your passport number and they can see it.

Everytime you re-enter you will get a new 6 months stamp. It was done correctly. That's great you have until June now.
