I'm posting this before I read the article. I'm going to guess they're going to make the banks adhere to ONE set of rules for opening an account!

Edit - Nope!

Have 3 bank and 1 building society account. All have brothers address. Pension paid into one bank and standing order to the other 3 every month. No issues so far after over 2 years

I booked 3 tickets for internal flight last February with a 7kg limit for carry on bag. All 3 people took an extra (personal item) bag that had to fit under the seat in front. My wife took these two, no questions asked

What a marvelously helpful comment. I'd like to say it's people like yourself that makes communicating on the internet a wonderful experience. Thank you and keep up the good work

I came here on 90 day exempt visa in 2022. Took fiancee to about 15 bank branches over 2 days. Different branches of the same bank had different requirements to open account, including Bangkok bank wanting a copy of a work permit despite me telling them I was soon to be changing to a retirement Non O visa. You will have to spend time, and legwork, going to as many as you can in your area, eventually you will get one opened. As MANY previous posts have commented in the near 2 years I've been here, IF the agent messes up it is not them in trouble. You could get banned because of their mistakes! As others said here, take a Thai speaker with you to immigration and ask for an up-to-date list. My experience is they are extremely helpful. Good luck, I hope it works out OK

Both times it took me around 15 minutes, and a few 100 baht, to get residence certificate from local Tourist Police office

Don't use an agent, expensive and not necessary! Like Cool said goto your local office, if you have a Thai speaking friend take them with you, and ask what forms/identification is needed. Then return on the date they give you. Took me less than an hour the first time I got mine, very easy

Ubon Ratchathani. Had to go in person recently as I applied online within 7 days of due date. Application denied and message saying "attend immigration office". I was told that you can't do online within 7 days, maybe other immigration regions are different !
