Can I apply for a Non-O visa based on retirement while only booking a one-way flight?

Hi, Early stages of application for non O based on retirement from UK aged 54.

I plan on buying single flight, not return. Is this possible or do I need a return flight and to put departure date in?

Not sure of intended arrival date yet (but early Jan 2022 hopefully) and have no plans to leave Thailand when I get there. Can I put an arrival date of say the 10th Jan but turn up on 15th?

Also, I'm retiring. On the form it asks for salary details (working notice now but technically I'm still employed until mid April but hope work will let me go early), do I put current salary down or future pension which I can claim in June 2022 when I'm 55?

I'm starting application using savings in UK bank and will open an account in Ubon bank soon after I arrive to season money for extension in 12 months.

Thanks and stay safe

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is in the early stages of applying for a Non-O visa based on retirement from the UK and has questions regarding flight requirements, arrival dates, salary declarations on the form, and insurance needs. Community members responded that a one-way flight is acceptable for a Non-O visa and suggested that entry can occur before the visa expiry date. It's recommended to provide current salary details for proof. Additionally, the ThailandPass is mandatory regardless of visa type, and while Covid insurance is necessary for entry, specific requirements may vary.

I think you can only apply for an O-A non from the uk … which is what I did 7 years ago … I never knew you could apply for an O non from your own country , only within Thailand ?
Ian *********
If you look at the top of it its stamped NON in purple with O written

It was definately a NON O i was issued

@Martin ********
I was issued a non o visa while in UK in august,I believe it's all online now,I had to send my passport to rte london
Ian *********
Hi Martin hope this helps you if your looking at the non o route,issued in UK by rte london

I’d have to let my current O-A extension run out and start again .. I’ve still got 9 months on my current one , I’ll weigh it up then , cheers 👍🏻

@Ian ********
that’s an extension… I think , I’m talking about the original visa’s ..

As I say I was 7 years ago maybe it’s changed anyway , but handy if it has because on an O-A , you have to buy health insurance, where as you don’t on a an O-Non

whatever you do pay absolutely no attention whatsoever to this attention seeker above, he hasn’t a clue what he’s talking about and will argue the toss all day long. Then he’ll try to report you when he finally realises all he’s done is humiliate himself. I’ve had to block him as he’s quite probably got a screw loose.

I’m not sure how she’s doing it. Perhaps via an air bridge or perhaps steps.

@ᘻᗅᖶᖶᗁᕦᙛ ******
it depends on what visa you’re on. If it’s a long term visa then there is no requirement for a flight out.
ᘻᗅᖶᖶᗁᕦᙛ *******
There is no visa on this planet that can take the place of a Thailand pass, everyone has to do the same process

@Stuart ********
you cannot travel to Thailand without a thailand pass. It don't matter what kind of Visa you have, you cannot get on a plane without thailand pass

The info graphic you posted mentions a tourist visa. Completely different from a long term visa. If you are on a long term visa, like a Non O, Non OA or Elite, etc there is no requirement for a return or onward flight. You apply for a ThailandPass like every one else. The ThailandPass system doesn’t check for onward flight. Your airline might, but it doesn’t.

I am interested to know how you will deal with the required insurances.

The Covid travel insurance usd$ 50k required for the Thai pass. Will you buy a full year of that?

The Thai health insurance required for long term stay, 40kb/400kb, from the listed Thai companies, will you enter with/without that?

(I was stamped in for 5 years on entry with OX, 2 years ago, before the Thai pass/covid rules)

@Eric *******
Initially I will buy minimum required to enter then buy annual policy after for my peace of mind. No point paying additional money if I can buy a short term one
Chris ********
ORIGINAL POSTER
Checked on UK Thai Embassy page and retirement visa on Non O doesn't show additional 40kb as a requirement. It does for OA & OX. Covid cover $100,000 is shown but i had more than enough on 2 weeks insurance recently
Eric ********
@Chris *******
interested to see if you have much choice .. the policy you load for entry determines how long you are stamped in for .. and the (separate) annual policy is compulsory.
Stuart *********
Put down current salary as they may ask for proof and you could show them an existing pay slip.

thanks for your help, much appreciated

You’ll still have to get the ThailandPass QR code and that is tied to a specific entry date, flight and accommodation.

thanks, just waiting for work to tell me if I can leave without working notice period. Will book everything when I get confirmation.
Stuart *********
Long term visas like the Non O do not need a flight out of Thailand.
Stuart *********
On arrival you’ll get 90 days which should be enough time to open the account and season funds for your year extension.

@Chris *******
you need the 800,000 baht in a Thai bank in your name two months before you *apply* for your O-visa extension .... so you should open an account and get that money in as quickly as possible. Best not to wait four weeks.

thanks, will be back at banks in the first week

The visa will be valid for 90 days from issue. You can enter Thailand at any date prior to its expiry.
