I finally submitted my application now that I landed in Vietnam but it keeps saying payment failed or canceled. I only have one international debit card with Charles Schwab that I’ve taken and used in over 12 different countries with no issue. I have a travel notice set for both Vietnam and Thailand and I am currently using it for other purchases.

I’ve tried safari, chrome, DuckDuckGo, laptop and mobile and keep getting failed payment. I’m so stressed out does anyone have a solution please? I’m on hold with my bank but their headquarters are in Texas and no one has answered yet. I want to give up.

EDIT: the Thai eVisa payment processing center is a Thai bank however its address is located in HONG KONG. I called my bank and they approved the charge and added Hong Kong to my travel alerts in addition to Vietnam and Thailand.

According to the Schwab representative I called, the eVisa website also used the current address zip code for the billing address - which is so nonsensical bc if I have to be in the country of the embassy I’m applying to why would they use the current address zip code for the billing zip code? Why not ask for that when taking down payment information?

Anyway, hope this helps any future applicants

Does anyone know the best way to move money from the us to Thailand. I used the atm but their exchange rate sucks. Wired money to my Thai bank account and that exchange rate cost me 2000baht on a 1,000 us deposit, worse than ATM

Experiment -

Transfer 30,000 baht from USA using cash via local Thai ATMs.

Withdrew 30000 baht from Krungsri ATM

ATM fee: -220 baht + 220 baht (my US bank reimbursed) = 0.00

Result: 865.65 USD = 30000 baht. So the exchange rate from my US bank (Charles Schwab) was 34.65603881476348 on 8/31

Next the deposit:

Bangkok bank CDM Cash deposit:

30,000 baht - 40 baht (deposit fee) 29,960.

Total in Fees: 40 baht.

Exchange rate for converting USD to Baht: 34.65603881476348.

Looking at the Wise transfer option I see these fees to transfer from my US bank to Wise:

What am I missing? The lower the fee the longer the wait.

Best method dollars from USA to Thai bank in Baht.

I have free wire transfers and free ATM withdrawals from my Charles Schwab account. I did ATM withdrawals and Wise transfer to see best rate.

ATM 17,000 Baht cost me $485.02 ($491.30 - $6.28 ATM fee credit) 35.05 Baht per dollar.

Wise says 34.87, but because of the fees it was 34.49.

Even without the ATM fee being refunded it would have been 34.60 Baht per dollar.

This was just for me, but if it helps anyone else you are welcome.

Oh yea my 2021 Mazda CX-3 gets 30 mpg with 95 gas which cost me $3.90 per gallon.

Now onto more important business:

How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

This question is for any American with a Charles Schwab checking account. Can you transfer money directly to a Thai bank account without using a "middle man" like Wise? If so, how long does it take? I ask because it seems like it would be easier to just link the banks, log on and transfer. Also, if you have let Schwab know you are permanently in Thailand with a Thai address (I don't want to lie with a virtual address), how did that go? Thanks in advance!

Hi everyone!

Me and my partner are heading to Thailand in April and will be travelling various countries for a long period of time. I’m just wondering what the best options are as regards to bank accounts. I’ll of course be wanting to withdraw money from atm’s all over world, does anyone have any suggestions? Ive heard Charles Schwab is one of the best but sadly you have to be a US citizen.

Any help appreciated! 😊
