TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster has a Non-O visa and is seeking advice on whether they need to inform immigration of their retirement status to receive a retirement stamp on their passport, which they believe is necessary for opening a bank account. Responses clarify that there is no specific retirement stamp; rather, the immigration officer will provide a 90-day stamp. Users also mention that having money in a Thai bank account is not required to receive the Non-O visa, but it is necessary for a 12-month extension. Suggestions include using a reputable bank like Kasikorn for opening an account and confirming the necessary documentation for an extension.

he will have the 90 days stamp based on funds in home bank account which gives him the time go get the cash into a Thai account for two months prior to getting the 12 month extension. I had to visit at least 10 banks before I finaly was accepted with the help of my landlady.

.. no... you need a Thai bank account for a YEARLY EXTENSION not the visa. The visa is processed outside of thailand to gain entry, so why the fuck would tou need a Thai bank account to do that?? So many people still don't know the difference between visas and extensions...

no. The stamp is for 90 days with funds shown in home bank account. To get the 12 month extension you need to have the money in a thai account for two months min. My local immigration officers did not know this when I first applied and it left me with quite a problem as my current Visa was about to expire.

Nothing special needed for a bank account just go to a head office in Bangkok as they understand. Small banks will give you the run around.

I used Kasikorn bank after being given the run around by other banks with rubbish requirements.

Go to immigration get the retirement visa application and it will tell you everything you need.

I did mine a week ago.

Forget all the talk just get the documents and do what it says. 1900bt is all it costs to process after you have everything in place.

You have to have your 800,000 baht in your Thai bank for two months before and 3 months after you apply they will not stamp you without this proof

You’ll get stamped in for 90 days. You do not need to tell the officer anything. There is no “retirement” stamp per se. They may write the word on your admitted to stay stamp but some won’t. You don’t need a special type of stamp to open a bank account. It’s just hit and miss at any branch whether they’ll let you, whatever visa or stamp you have.

thanks, I tried 6 banks in Central Plaza, Ubon and 2 said if I had the word retirement in my passport they'd open an account. I'll ask them to write it but if not hopefully the long term should get it. Thanks again
