Booked one way flight for 10th Jan as retiring to Thailand. Applied, and submitted application, for 90 day Non O (for retirement) but couldn't get past the "return flight date" without putting a date in. I did but will it be a problem not having a return flight? Also I used previous hotel near airport for AQ but hadn't booked it already. Now I can't book as website greyed out on list of AQ hotels, can i book a different hotel and change visa application? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has booked a one-way flight to Thailand as they are retiring there and applied for a 90-day Non-O visa. They are concerned about the requirement to input a return flight date, as they do not have one. Community members suggested several approaches, including entering a date when the visa expires, booking a cheap throwaway flight as a precaution, and noting that it often isn’t required for long-term visas. Additionally, they mentioned issues with Alternative Quarantine hotel bookings and asked if changing the hotel would affect their visa application.

On the day you fly in, book a 12-24hr validity 'temp' flight. Onwardflight.com

Only costs about $10

Consider it a small insurance policy, this will cover you if they try to refuse entry. I recently flew in and was required to have a return flight and did exactly this, I wrote down a random flight number near the end of my stay. I was never asked, but certain airports WILL ask and you'll be stuck without it.

They use the same Visa application for every visa and for some reason they made every field required even when they don't apply.

You should be fine putting in whatever because you'd be entering on a long term visa type. You didn't have to show onward travel either, that's required for short term visas like tourist.

Onwardticket.com used it twice no issues 👍

Pick a date as potential to leave the country.

We booked 50 dollar throw away flights to Singapore just in case they asked for it.

Airlines or immigration did not ask for it.

Its rare but sometime the upgraded tickets allow for cheap or free one time flight change.

Have you applied for a Thailand Pass and had it approved before 22 December? If not, things have changed as per the info below;

Temporary Suspension of Test and Go and Sandbox Applications

December 23: Updated Thailand Entry Requirements

Temporary Suspension of Test & Go and Sandbox Applications

Thailand Pass system has temporarily suspended new applications for the Test & Go and Sandbox Programs (except Phuket Sandbox), starting 22 December 2021 until further notice.

New measures apply for all applicants on Thailand Pass, as follows;

Travelers who have received their Thailand Pass QR Code can still enter Thailand under the date of arrival and program they have been approved for.

Applicants who have registered, but have not received their Thailand Pass QR Code must wait for their Thailand Pass to be considered/approved. Once approved, they can enter Thailand under the program they have been approved for.

New applicants will not be able to register for the Test and Go and Sandbox Programs (except Phuket Sandbox). Thailand Pass system will only accept new applications seeking to enter Thailand under Alternative Quarantine (AQ) or Phuket Sandbox only.

Test and Go Thailand Pass QR Code Will Remain Valid

To be clear, this is NOT a closure of the borders. The Test and Go and Sandbox programs are not canceled or suspended.

It is just a temporary suspension of the new applications for Test & Go and the Blue Zone Sandbox (except for Phuket Sandbox) Programs. Everything else will continue as normal.

If you have already applied for a Thailand Pass under Test & Go and Sandbox, your application is still being processed. We are still observing applications being approved each day even after the suspension of new applications.

If your application is approved, you will be able to come under the original conditions stated in your Thailand Pass. This means, for Test & Go, you only need to stay for one night in the hotel, wait for the results for the first test and then you are free to go.

If your application is rejected, you will need to re-apply and enter via the Phuket Sandbox or Quarantine program. If you think your rejection was a mistake, you may email the Thailand Pass System at

There Is No January 10 Cut-Off

One very important piece of information that the Thai media got wrong is the cut-off date for arriving in Thailand. Basically, there isn’t one. Earlier this week, the media were saying you must arrive before 10th January if you don’t want to do quarantine. That is not correct. You can still arrive on the date that was approved on your application or as stated in your Thailand Pass. For example, if you said you are arriving on January 20, then you still can use the Test & Go QR Code, stay for one night in the Test and Go hotel and wait for the test results; after which, you can travel to other parts of Thailand.

Phuket Sandbox: Enter Thailand Without Quarantine

Travelers who are fully vaccinated can still enter Thailand without quarantine under the Phuket Sandbox program:

Phuket Sandbox stay will be 7 nights, unless travelers have proof of return tickets leaving Phuket (to another country) before 7 days.

Travelers must book a Sandbox Hotel in Phuket for at least 7 nights before they can stay in a non-Sandbox hotel or accommodation, private residence, or before they are allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand.

Travelers under the Phuket Sandbox will be allowed to travel around the island of Phuket and they are not confined in their hotel rooms during their Sandbox stay. They are allowed to participate in tours and other activities in Phuket.

Travelers for Phuket Sandbox must arrive at Phuket Airport from abroad. You cannot qualify for Phuket Sandbox if your flight itinerary has a stop in Bangkok, so do not book a flight with a stop or transit in Bangkok. You can fly direct to Phuket or you may fly to Phuket via Finland, UAE, Qatar, or Singapore.

Travelers must book in advance their RT-PCR COVID test at Phuket Airport through this website:
