Its best to go through agent. Ive just done that,

Just do what you want to do.

I would say rent a house local, as you need to make sure you like the area. You can build whenever you want. And if you have money, and some is disposable then do what you want. Also if you have lots of money just buy 5, 10 or 15 years with long term visa cant remember what its called elite , privalage something like that . You pay money and stay without restrictions like us on other visas and you get perks and discounts . Cost about 20k pounds i think google it.
