Looking for a realistic budget for a couple to live in a city like Chiang Mai or equivalent, walking distance to shopping, love eating local when we've travelled and using wet markets for fresh produce.
Might either rent a scooter or just use Grab to get around.
Would like a 1 to 2 bedroom unit ideally with pool and gym.
I am going to apply from Laos for DTV visa Muay Thai soft power.
The embassy requires to pay in cash “Thai bhat” , I would like to know if it is easy to exchange money to Thai bhat around there “ like is it from any exchange shop we can get Thai bhat “ ?
Also if you have any recommendation of the area name that you suggest to book Airbnb or hotel which will be convenient to go to the embassy.
If you also have any tips to keep in mind while applying the application please drop it in the comments I will really appreciate it.
Hello, I know this is a visa advice group but I figured that some of ya’ll knows private drivers in bkk and give it a shot here instead of joining a bkk group and having to wait for approval. Thank you.

Hello everyone I’m planning on visiting Thailand for the first time next year in July and I will be there for possibly 2 months! Is there anything I should know as someone that’s never traveled outside of the United States before? I appreciate it 🙂
For those of you in Thailand on a DTV visa — is Rawai a good place to base yourself as this is where I’ve seen a decent Muay Thai gym under the soft power visa, or would you recommend another area of Phuket?
While I’m out there, I’d love to connect with others into fitness/gym life and digital nomads. Would you recommend renting a motorbike or a car, and what are the typical costs? I know motorbikes are easy to rent, but I only have an international driving license (not a motorbike one), so I’m not sure how that works.
Same with accommodation — did you sort it once you arrived or book in advance? Roughly what are the monthly costs for a decent place in Phuket?
Also, how did you go about meeting like-minded people? I’d like to avoid feeling isolated, as I’m moving from the UK and hoping to meet people into fitness, good vibes, and community.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated as I’m getting flights to Phuket booked and sorting putting things into storage back home in the UK currently preparing to move. Thanks in advance!
