Robert Lagas sure, but in other words, no need to get the visa if he is leaving to Laos and has that onward bus ticket to show. That will give him 30 day exemption and he can get another when he comes back? No need for a visa. If he interrupts his thailand visit with a trip to Laos then he is doing two < 30 day visits to Thailand. 🤷‍♂️

You can buy a bus ticket to Malaysia for $10 and then simply not use it. Gives someone on the bus extra space and you have your proof of onward travel.

If the Laos trip splits your trip the. You will get two visa exemptions that will cover the 33 days. If the 33 days are back to back you will need to extend your visa exemption at an immigration office.

This all providing that your passport allows for visa exemption.

I’m sure others will chime in before the comments are closed but this is the situation to the best of my knowledge.

thanks! Yes, I’ve done “one”. I went out in December (exemption until January 2019) but for some reason the officer market it as (1) for 2019. So this will be my second. Only going to Koh Lipe if my SA passport gets denied at Mae Sai and Chiang Khong.
