I think you get denied to go out without avisa for Myanmar because they're not taking you back. If they're not takng you back and you just have a 12h visa you'll be stranded on the bridge... In theory. The same idea as being denied boarding ifyou dont have a visa for your destination, at the airport.

at Mae Sai you can be denied "exit". They won't let you out on a day pass to Tachileck if they're not going to let you back in. For example, if you have done two land crossings and try a third, as far as I heard, they won't give you the day visa into Myanmar because when you have to come back they wont accept you. They eill instead tell you to go somewhere else asap.

That is my understanding anyway.

Agreed. If I get denied I will be denied before leaving which I guess will mean I need to hastily book a flight to MY or something like that. Thanks again. This group is great..

Ok, if I don't learn anything new about Myanmar I will go there. Otherwise I will hopefully remember to update here while making my way to the South.

There are a few facebook groups for South African's in Thailand that you can try. I need to do this in die middle of October. Hoping it's not a problem at Mae Sai.

I've done a bunch of border runs at Mae Sai on South African passport but last one was December 2018.
