How long does it take to get a new South African passport from the Embassy in Bangkok?

Language school suggested that having 7 pages left in my passport and 10 visits to Thailand in the last two years means there is a reasonable chance an application for Ed Visa will be denied. 

Does anyone know how long it takes to get a new South African passport from the Embassy in BKK? I read a post on thaivisa.com where the guy said it took 9 months. 

Anyone have experience with that? 9 months is almost longer than the ED Visa.
