In order to avoid doing a visa run just before Christmas I would like to get a tourist visa this time instead of Visa examption. That way I can extend past the end of the year. 

My question: what is the fastest/easiest from Chiang Mai. My visa expires on Friday the 19th. I'm happy to fly out today if I can get a visa before the weekend. 

I haven't done a tourist visa (60 day) before so a little out of my depth. Thanks for the help! 🙏

The easiest run from Chiang Mai would probably be the thai consulate in Vientiane. you can fly to Udon Thani, take a mini van to the Nong Khai border, cross into Lao and get to vientiane easily. Then you can go to the consulate and apply for a single entyr tourist visa. They accept applications from about 9-11:30 in the morning, and you pick up your passport with the visa in it the next afternoon from 1:30-3:30. Then get back to the border, cross in to thailand at Nong Khai and go back to the Udon airport to fly to Chiang Mai.

OR that's what most people up in your area do. Although you did leave it kind of late to be buying airline tickets :/

Thanks a million Tod. Much appreciated! You guys are incredible. Ended up booking a quick same day return to Macau. Going to forgo the tourist visa this time in favour of just the visa exemption and do a one day Mae Sai run in December.

I'll have to plan this a bit better next time.
