There is nothing from Thailand or the US asking us tò return to the US every two years. Get the Non-O visa from the Thai embassy in the US. Come to Thailand and immidiately open a bank account with 400,000 (if you want to apply for a visa based on being married to a Thai--Can work in Thailand if you wish) or 800,000 (retirement visa--cannot work in Thailand). Go to local immigration office and have a talk with them.

Go to a different Bangkok Bank. I use Bangkok Bank and have never been asked to do this. Sometimes it is the person and not the establishment making the rules. Good luck!

Depends on the airline you are starting your journey with--the one who gives you your tickets and checks your baggage in. Call and ask them. I am an American and called American Airlines. They will check for an onward ticket---I was quoted their rules when I called them and asked.

If I understand your issue correctly, you have 90 days to enter Thailand with your non-o e-visa given to you by your Thai Embassy. Upon entering Thailand, you will be stamped in for 90 days. You apply for an extension, yearly, within the last 30 days of your stamped in visa date but contact your local immigration for their requirements.

Sorry, I should have noted this in my previous post. I have had a Thai bank account with the needed 400,000 Thai baht for many years now.

From your posting, if I get the Non O visa here in the states, I will NOT have to show proof of onward travel to airlines and customs, if they ask? Will all airlines recognize/understand this and not ask me for an onward ticket? If so, then I should get the Non O visa here in the states.

Hi Tod, For someone who is going to move to Thailand based on being married to a Thai, is there a better of the two--to get a 90 day Non O visa based on marriage to a Thai in my country before going to Thailand or going to Thailand and getting stamped in for 60 days and going to immigration in my area and applying?

I tranferred money from my US bank to my BKK account via their New York branch earlier this year with no issues.
