If you want to open a bank account it is very straight forward. Got to an immigration office and apply for a certificate of residence, after providing the relevant documents they will then ask you which bank you want to open an account with and they will provide a letter.
Don’t use an agent, don’t listen to everyone saying it’s impossible, it’s easy you just need the correct paperwork.
Banks are very happy to accommodate you when you provide the required documents.
Relative to the many posts about opening a bank account, the rules have indeed changed and tightened up. I have been a resident of Thailand on a Non-OA visa for ten years, and have two Bangkok Bank accounts- my original one in Bangkok, and the second of which I opened 3 years ago in Jomtien Pattaya. I was only asked for my passport and visa for that one, but today I tried to open a new one in Sa Kaeo to use for my visa renewal in the Immigration Office in Aranyaprathep in August. They informed me that they now require a letter from Immigration, which if I understood correctly is a Certificate of Residence. I plan to do that next week. Any tips on what will be required?
Bangkok bank 2nd road, Pattaya klang. Just been informed by many of the staff who had a long conversation. Foreigner can no longer open bank account until they're on a long stay visa (not 3 months). I asked even if I het permission letter from immigration? They said NO, because can buy, so we not accept, in other words cos some officials are corrupt and will produce the letter for 500-1000bt, they will not accept. I asked about the insurance policy purchase, no not available to you, only option they gave was a 50k per year life insurance policy, which u commit to for 8yrs, then wait +7 more years for it to mature and with interest it will return approx 450,000bt after 15yrs. Yeah no. Anybody successfully opened a bank account in Pattaya in last 2 months with letter from immigration? Staff were adamant "all banks same"
Banking question. I cannot get an answer from immigration:
I am fine putting ฿800,000 in a bank account . But I want to get decent interest. The bank tells me I can get a decent 2.4% interest in a fixed account. However, that money cannot be accessed by ATM or the banking app for things like making payments.
I don’t want to put the 800,000 into their savings book account because it only gets 0.25% .
Also, I want to have my deposit every month over the next 12 months so I can in one year get my 800,000 back
Question: can I have two accounts? One with a bank that is a fixed account that I put the 800,000 in and I do not touch for the year and I get 2.4%.
A regular savings account where I would deposit my 65,000 bought every month so in 12 months I can show that I have the pension and I can get my 800,000 back
Will that be allowed? Same bank just two different accounts. The savings account that I deposit my pension into I could then use for paying bills, etc., and withdrawal from ATM.
So I went to a random local bank to ask the question of opening up an account on a DTV status? The teller told me I either have to be employed by a Thai company or be on a retirement visa. Is it safe to say that this is not possible whilst being on a DTV?
Please let me know your personal experiences and suggestions if there is a possibility of being successful. CNX location.
I am new to this group, so I apologize in advance if this question has been already answered a gazillion times. That said… My husband and I want to retire to Thailand this year. We’re convinced that we should hire an agency for getting a retirement visa since we’re not good at all with details. We’d really appreciate any personal recommendations for a reliable agent in Phuket. Thank you in advance.
Did anyone who changed from Non B to DTV got their bank account closed by the bank?
The bank ask me to "update my info" on where am I tax resident and submit some docs, but I don't know if they see that I am DTV they will automatically close my account?
