Why was my Thai girlfriend denied a B1/B2 visa by the American Embassy?

Back in 2004 I tried to get my then girlfriend a tourist visa , she lasted 5 minutes was denied , I then filed k1 visa took 6 months but went through .

It's policy to deny and only approve after reappeal and spending more money. Youll get approved on a reappeal

Does your girlfriend have a strong enough reason to return back to Thailand? Own a house? Business? Kids?

My wife recently got her visa to USA to live and work, when she went to the embassy for the interview she said even those married to US citizens were being denied ( marriage under 2 years), luckily we’ve been married over 10 years and she got her visa.

US embassy will not tell you the reason for refusing you a Visa. You file your application online, get an appointment and go for your interview. When they pull up your application they already know if you will be refused or given a Visa.

I feel for you brother went through the same thing with my wife she got denied after she had already been to the United States on a fiancé visa with me when she decided she didn’t wanna live in the US so we came back to Thailand and she applied for the tourist visa denied on the first application Second time submitted the exact same paperwork and it was approved so go figure

If it's a girlfriend, your chances are close to zero unless your gf has strong ties showing she'll return to Thailand (underage children still in Thailand, long term business ownership, etc..).

Also, unless she's very old (40s/50s) then there's the assumption of sex trade.

Best chances are older with ties and applying for tourist reasons with proof of reservations for stay and scheduled tourist activities NOT mentioning coming as a girlfriend.

I know a fifty year old Thai woman that has a Thai government job. She has traveled a few times to Europe. Last year she applied for a tourist visa to the United States. She had been rejected three times.

If she listed you as a friend, the game is over. I told my friend applying for tourist visa not to admit that she knew me, but when they asked her if she knew anybody in the country, she told the truth, and as a result, she was then immediately denied. There was a 0% chance that she would’ve stayed, but so many do overstay, thus the honest ones also get denied. Very unfair, but understandable.

It can be very frustrating when the applicant legitimately has no intention of trying to remain in the US. They often don’t even check supporting documents. Having a connection to a US citizen (boyfriend, spouse) can make it harder as they may feel that the US citizen will want to remain the US, where they presumably have ties, etc. I have heard of interviews where they ask about the US citizen spouse/partner and how strong their ties to Thailand are. I know several people who got it on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th try. Wait a while before trying again. The next time have her be prepared to talk about why you BOTH intend to return to Thailand. BTW, consular officers usually get rotated out after 2-3 years. Agencies don’t have any special connections or influence with consular staff either.

They should at least give a more detailed reason for rejection.

I'm sorry to say, but you're not on your own. I have a Thai wife trying to bring to the u. K after me having a heart attack, she has 2 businesses.

And a young sibling, we special need that. She looks after we hired about a 1000 pound. An agent who took 2.5 Months to compile all the evidence end photos of the wedding photos of the businesses. Someone letters from the hospital, how serious ill I was they said it would be 10 days for them to process. The agent was Gov smart after 52 hours getting it back. A denial.

And there denial, reason with no allowed appeal.

If they had read the case notes it was all in there. But they said she had no reason no dependent to return to Thailand. Yet the case file would've seen it all if they had actually opened it to show the custody of the young's sibling brother i just think embassies are taking money and running nowadays, making you pay again because they contract it out hope you get it sorted

There could be many reasons, e.g., she may not have enough money in the bank to support herself independently. She may be a signatory to your account, but it is not her account. Visitors to the USA usually can not work; if they do, they get deported at great expense. Hmmm? It's the same in Australia and many other countries.

Usually if they give a woolly excuse, they're not being honest, but I know for UK applications they like to see the Thai national has a reason to come home, ie, a good job or a property. But a big age gap will also make them look twice

They automatically assume she will not return to Thailand. My gf at the time was also denied. Never even looked at her paperwork.

What if an American wants a K1 to Thailand?

Was it a B1 or a B2 or combined? The refusal rate is as high as 80%, and they never provide further details for "insufficient information", but it's almost always financial- i.e. the applicant has more reason to stay in the U.S. than to return to Thailand, where they have insufficient net worth in property, investments and cash. Did she interview in English or in Thai? Did they ask her for more information about you and the duration of your relationship?

You wouldn't happen to have 5 million dollars for her to get a "gold card?"

Need to do it yourself answer all the questions you will get it. Agency want you to apply again easy for them

You mentioned girlfriend so I am assuming it is a tourist visa. Does she own anything (car, real estate) and have a full time job? If she has a full time job most likely she cannot stay more than lets say 10 days which would be the maximum she would be allowed if she has employment? How many days did she say she will stay? Did she ever travel overseas before? If she was denied then the embassy employee didn't see a strong reason for her to come back. If you spill the details of her finances and employment situation plus prior overseas travel I am sure we can point out some reasons she was denied.

US Embassy in BKK is a joke. They don't care about helping anyone.

From what i've been told it's a strong ties, Weak ties method. The stronger her ties are that she will come back to thailand and the weaker ties to the united states gives the best chance of approval. The stronger ties to Thailand are more likely it is to get approved. Such as her having a really good paying job here in Thailand with a work letter saying she's going to be gone for a few weeks from work and returning back and she has vacation days bla bla bla. Bank account statements sometimes matter. Having kids, a house, and car here in thailand gives her a lot stronger ties to come back as well. They have a high disapproval rate. Maybe your lawyer can explain all of this better to you. I know integrity legal has a lot of videos about it on youtube if you wanna check it out.

The US automatically assumes every person coming in will attempt to live in the US and overstay their visa. This has been the practice for years. Nothing to do with Trump, although I don't imagine any easing of that mindset under him.

Ya. I'm really nervous because I have this coming up soon with my wife. And all I've heard are horror stories of random denies because mercury is in retrograde and stuff.

Typical bulkshit for upstanding citizens. They deny these folks (with reliable boyfriend sponsors) but let god only knows in, thru southern border (pre Trump of course).

Refusal is usually because they are not 100% certain the applicant has strong enough evidence that they will return to thailand

My rich friend wanted to bring his girlfriend to America on a long-term visa, 10 years. She lived with him a long time, owned a house, had money in the bank, and had a job. She filled out all the paperwork, went to the embassy three times, and had an interview with the same guy who spoke to her in Thai. She was denied every time. The fourth time she went and did everything the same, and got the same guy, he started to speak Thai, and she said Look, maybe the problem is your thai is not understandable. How about we speak in English. she got the10 year
