They are primarily checking whether you are using visa-exempt entries to live in Thailand and possibly work illegally. There are telltale signs of prolonged stays in Thailand. Each entry is utilized to the fullest, i.e., stayed almost 60 days, extending each entry. Border runs to turn around and get another visa-exempt entry in the past and then use it to stay in Thailand to the fullest.
I know, I did Non-OA for 10 years until they mandated health insurance. I switched to an agent-assisted Non-O for five years, and now I switched to a DTV visa and am completely free from the hassle of Thai bureaucracy. I refused to keep 800 baht in a Thai bank.

To avoid the hassle of Thai bureaucracy, I switched to a DTV visa. I had stopped using Thai bank accounts (I have three of them, but I think they closed one) for the last five years and now exclusively use my US credit cards for all the places that accept CCs, like

, Big C, restaurants, nudie bars, etc. I also withdraw 30K cash at a time using my Fidelity ATM card for places where cash is preferred like weed shops, Bolt, mall food courts, etc. When I bought a motorcycle last year, I just paid 500 baht for a residency certificate. It's a real pleasure not to depend on Thai bureaucracy for anything.
Thailand believes it is more acceptable to sacrifice a traveler with unlimited funds than to allow thousands to remain in the country on tourist visas while they work illegally and establish illegal businesses.
