it was weird that they asked him to show accommodation in a week's time in Bangkok and not the immediate accommodation he had booked in Nong Khai. Fortunately he was prepared
my son arrived visa exempt two weeks ago, His plane which had transited in Kuala Lumpur was met with about 10 uniformed immigration police. He tells me they examined everyone's passport thoroughly. While he has multiple Thailand entry stamps, they are not back to back. He was allowed to proceed with his journey but they expressed surprise that he had no visa

Making the delivery drivers do cash on delivery, makes them try harder to find me, instead of them disposing of a prepaid package. Has worked every time and I have never had an item undelivered
You did a border run not a visa run. A visa run requires attending a Thai consulate or embassy in another country, paying a fee and getting a full page visa sticker stuck in your passport. Which usually entitles you to 60 days in Thailand, 90 if you extend at immigration.

It really depends where you choose to live. Phuket and Samui will cost you more for restaurant food and drinks. Bangkok will cost you more than Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. And everywhere will be more expensive than Isan. It depends how you want to live? Drink wine? Eat cheese. Or eat like a local without eating Western food regularly. Are you going to buy a car or motorbike? Will you be paying for adequate health insurance? A major accident or illness could heavily dent your savings. It really is a difficult question for anyone to answer if they don't know your tastes and lifestyle preferences.
