We are planning a thailand / malaysia border bounce this weekend. We plan to drive to as close to the Satun boarder as possible and then cross over on foot and come straight back in again… does this approach sound doable, is this still allowed? Also what documents will we need if any? I believe we will get 45 days now 1st October has passed. Any advice would be hugely appreciated 🙏🏼

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning a Thailand/Malaysia border bounce this weekend and is inquiring if this is still permissible and what documentation is needed. The discussion reveals that border bounces are still allowed, and it seems that the user expects to receive a 45-day entry permit due to a recent rule change. There are mentions of potential extensions at immigration and the limitations regarding the length of stay based on the method of entry.

Hi, I'm planning to do the same in December, how did it go?
Michael *******
45 entry! Apply for 30 day extension! 👍

Yes. Though, if I recall there is not much there. A town.

I thought 45 days was only for entering Thailand by plane ✈️?

@Lindsay *****
it is also by land as well, they changed it back in 2016 my memory from 15 days. Now 45 days till the end of March 2023 at this stage.

Can I purchase country extensions twice . Sorry for all the questions

@Lindsay *****
no only one 30 day extension.

Many people are confused with the land/air entry allowance. This dates back to prior to 2016 where there was a difference. Nowadays there is no difference entering visa exempt by land,sea or air. The only caveat to that is that land or sea entries are limited to two per calendar year. There is no set limit via air - although at some point if you try too many the immigration officer will question why and perhaps even deny you entry.

I think I will do a trip start of Jan and get 45 days. Do I have to book this before I arrive in Thailand to show on arrival

@Lindsay *****
no. Entering visa exempt for 45 days you only need your passport. Should you want more than that you can either get an in country extension for 30 days (75 days total) or buy a tourist visa prior to arrival where you’d get 60 days (also extendable for 30 days to make 90 in total).

Yes it’s one of those points where even some Thai embassy websites still have wrong information. Just confuses many people.

no it's by Land border too. My son crossed last week by land from Laos to Thailand and got 45 days

@Dianne ****
thank you Dianne I am coming to Thailand next month for 77 days so was just looking at how to do this . I was going to extend 30 days and pay 2 days when leaving Thailand what do people think
Graham ******
@Lindsay *****
Get a 60 day tourist visa and extend it once to give you a total of up to 90 days. Do not go on Overstay as the consequences if caught are not worth it.
