Reporting a positive experience of doing a 12 month extension (based on being over 50) at Chiang Mai Immigration yesterday. Arrived around 8.15am, finished by 10.45am. Less than 5 minutes wait in the queue for a ticket. Plenty of empty seats in the waiting area. Some visa agents there but with the customer ie did not see any of them carrying multiple passports/paperwork. I used a statutory declaration (notarized letter) re receiving 65K a month into my overseas bank account. I got this from the Australian Embassy about a month before they stopped issuing them, thanks to the advice in this group to do that. I wasn't asked for proof of funds, although I had brought that with me. The stat dec alone was enough. Not sure if I was just lucky that I had an Immigration staff member that was in a good mood, or if Chiang Mai Immigration have become more lenient and have stopped asking for multiple proofs of the foreigners overseas income. A very much improved experience, whatever

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user reported a smooth experience extending their visa for 12 months at Chiang Mai Immigration, arriving at 8:15 am and finishing by 10:45 am with minimal wait and no need for additional proof of income. They utilized a notarized statutory declaration obtained from the Australian Embassy, which was sufficient for the application, suggesting potential leniency in immigration requirements.

WOW! To have the affidavit of income from abroad notary accepted at face value at the Chiang Mai immigration office is really rare :O

They usually require proof you're either bringing the money in or it's being deposited into your account in your country.

Maybe you got a good officer on a good day ;)

Congrats

Valentina O'Gara they SHOULD have accepted the affidavit of income notary AND they should have let you use the 500K and the affidavit to meet the 800K baht (if they totaled that).

Valentina O'Gara I'm sorry you had such a hard time of it, I had read your comments in previous posts and was honestly expecting the same. This is why I posted because it was such a surprise and hopefully a change

Valentina O'Gara you are incorrect :O they DID accept a joint account BUT only credited you HALF of the money in the account 50% is yours and 50% is your spouses).

IF you had 1.6 million in the account you would have been credited 800K baht (half) of it ...

Valentina O'Gara you was lucky they even accepted 500k of the 1 million. Some I/O won't accept joint accounts period. Those that do will look at it, as in your case that only 50% of the balance is yours.
