that refers to the multiple entry tourist visa not the SETV.

Reading through the post it sounds like you've applied for a Single Entry Tourist Visa ( no such thing as a visit family and friends Tourist Visa)

Once granted you have 3 months to use it (not 6 months, that refers to the remaining validity of the passport)

Upon arrival you will be granted 60 days.

If you wanted you could extend it for 1900thb at an immigration office.

I did. I didn't see anything that allows 6 months to use the visa.

he doesn't actually know what type of visa he has. "Visit family and friends TR visa" whatever that is. So, sounds like he has a SETV which is 60 days + 30. I suppose he could have got a non o marriage/Thai child ( 90 days) but I guess he would of mentioned that. Either way, 3 months to use it.

Go to immigration on the 3rd January.

Pay the 9000thb overstay fine

Buy the 30 day extension for 1900thb that will be backdated to the 17th.

Dress appropriately

Don't get arrested or stopped by the popo in the meantime as everything will go to ratshit from there on.

He needs to get money in the bank pronto and then request the 60 day visit family extension. At the end of that he can apply for the full extension.

you don't get any choice in the matter. It's up to your carrier. So you either go back to the country you came from, or, on rare occasions, home country
