Hi all asking on behalf of my partner who isn't in the group.

She is from Taiwan and wants to apply in Taipei. She has the savings, but works online teaching English and other freelance bits and pieces (a few hours a week for two companies), but the majority of her income is from the English teaching. She makes about 40-60k THB per month depending on the month.

The English teaching is through one of those freelance platforms where you post your profile and rate and students can find you. I think they're classed as freelancers rather than employees.

I know they ask for an interview in Taipei and apparantly also a motivation letter, and I assume one question will be why do you want to go to Thailand to work? Any tips on how to answer this? Or any other general tips for applying in Taipei?

We're a little worried as her income isn't as high as lots of the people who apply but I know they don't have a specific rule for income and it's still above the Thai average so should be OK?

Hi! A bit late but still wanted to share my DTV experience in Taipei :) Thanks for all the tips from this group.

I'm a Taiwanese passport holder but had a Thai work permit that was valid until Dec 26, 2025. I sent in my DTV application (workation) on Dec 29, 2025. I submitted 1) my freelance contract, 2) company registration, 3) 4 months of pay slips, 4) 3 months of bank statements with 500k+ baht balance using my Thai + Taiwanese bank accounts, 5) my CV + work samples.

Dec 29 - Application submitted

Dec 30 - Request for further documents (bank statements + proof of remote work)

I created a chart to sum up the balance in my accounts with the most up-to-date currency exchange rate, and isolated the page from my contract that states I could from anywhere. Submitted on the same day.

Then it's the long NYE break...

Jan 6, 2026 - Request for further documents again, the embassy called me and asked for a letter from my direct manager to clearly state that I could work remotely, despite my contract says I could work from anywhere. The lady on the phone insisted to see 'working remotely' being spelled out... Submitted on the same day.

Jan 7 - Interview scheduled for Jan 13

Jan 13 - Interview day

I printed out everything (40+ pages...) as instructed, got to the embassy early and the front desk lady asked me to highlight my bank balance and work-from-anywhere line in my contract. The officer who interviewed me noticed I've worked in Thailand prior and asked if I like Thailand. I said yes and we chitchatted a bit about the weather, and then he asked where my current company is based (outside of Thailand). And that was it lol.

Jan 16 - DTV approved in the morning :)

Jan 18 - Flew back to the kingdom, no question asked at the immigration.

Took me 3 weeks total but there's a 5-day NYE break in between - and the further document requests wasted a bit of time. I called the embassy to see if I could move up the interview but they said no :( Overall I think no more than 2 weeks in Taipei!

Was looking to apply for my DTV while I'm at work in Taiwan but heard from one of the guys at work it's difficult here with the embassy being in the Philippines, there being awkward making it over complicated with documents. Anyone done it here in Taiwan or had a better experience somewhere else close by like Malaysia, Indonesia so on? Thanks for the advice.

My Interview Experience for the DTV in Taipei

Basic Information

Nationality: Taiwan

Applied from: Taiwan

DTV Category: Muay Thai

Application Timeline

8/31 (11:50 PM): Submitted my DTV application online. Status: Processing → Pending Document Check.

9/1 (10:31 AM): Requested to upload proof of employment with company’s license. (I explained that I’m unemployed, have no current income, but have sufficient funds—well above the minimum 500,000 THB requirement—to support myself in Thailand.)

9/1 (3:00 PM): Requested again to upload my Taiwan Entry and Exit Certificate within 1 year (issued by the Taiwan National Immigration Agency). I had already submitted this in my initial application, but I uploaded it again.

9/1 (3:54 PM): Requested to upload the Certificate of Entry and Exit Dates from the Taiwan National Immigration Agency, updated at least one day before submission. (I didn’t know this requirement, so I rushed to the immigration office the same day, got the updated certificate, and uploaded it immediately.)

9/3: Received an email inviting me for an interview.

9/5 (3:00 PM): Attended the interview in Taipei.

9/5 (6:30 PM): Received an email confirming my visa was approved.

Total time to get my visa: 1 week.

Document Preparation

One important thing to note is that you must print out every single document you uploaded online. I originally thought showing them on my laptop would be enough, but it wasn’t. Thankfully, there was a 7-11 nearby, so I quickly printed everything. After submission, the staff reviewed my papers and then called in the officer for the interview.

Interview Process

The interview was conducted entirely in English, regardless of whether you’re a foreigner or a Taiwanese applicant. The atmosphere was neutral—not especially friendly, but not harsh either. It mainly felt like a fact-checking step to make sure all the information I provided was accurate.

Interview Questions:

*Why do you want to learn Muay Thai in Thailand?*

(Because Taiwan cannot provide the ideal training environment I’m looking for.)

*How did you start learning Muay Thai?*

(Last year I joined a Muay Thai trial class in Thailand and immediately fell in love with it. Since then, I have continued to practice.)

*How did you find your current Muay Thai gym?*

(I searched gyms on Instagram, tried a few, and chose the one I liked most.)

*What is your current employment/financial situation?*

(I’m currently on a gap year after resigning from my job. I showed bank proof from two accounts—one in Canada and one in Taiwan. The officer also asked me to explain my bank account transactions)

*What did you do before this gap year?*

*What were your past trips to Thailand for Muay Thai like?*

(Previously, I trained while also working remotely at the same time.)

*What is your plan for life in Thailand after training?*

(I plan to focus on training, and in my free time, I’ll read and work on developing my skills for my next career. )

*Questions about past life in Canada*

*Questions about long-term DTV planning:*

(I explained my five-year plan for the DTV visa. My first year will focus on Muay Thai training. After that, I’ll need to decide whether to continue training using my savings or return to Taiwan to work in an office. Ideally, I hope to find a full-time remote job that would allow me to stay in Thailand longer.)

After the Interview

My interview was at 3:00 in the afternoon. The officer asked me to wait for the results, and by 6:30 the same day I received an email confirming that my visa had been approved.

Overall Impression & Tips

Applying in Taipei was a fairly neutral and efficient experience. I prepared all the requested documents, uploaded additional documents within a few hours whenever they asked, and they responded quickly—sometimes within just one hour. Overall, the entire process was very fast and professional.

If you’re preparing for this, print all your documents in advance, including bank proofs, and be ready to explain your financial records, past work experience, and training plans clearly.

Good luck everyone!

Hi everyone, thank you so much — your posts have been incredibly helpful and I really appreciate this community! 🙏

I have a question about the financial documents for the DTV application. I'm planning to apply from Taiwan.

I currently have the following:

* 5 million JPY in a fixed deposit account (fully liquid, I can withdraw it anytime). This is approximately 1.1 million THB.

* 500,000 JPY in a regular bank account, which is about 110,000 THB.

I read from previous posts that PayPal is not accepted, so I’m not planning to submit that.

However, most of my income in the past year has been received through PayPal, and I haven’t been transferring it to my bank account regularly.

This is because the Japanese yen has dropped significantly in value, and my Japanese bank requires me to convert the funds into JPY when withdrawing from PayPal, which I’m trying to avoid.

So, while I have enough income and transaction history in PayPal to prove financial stability, I understand this might not be valid for DTV.

Just to confirm: would income shown in PayPal still count if not withdrawn into a bank account?

Also, regarding the fixed deposit — I know it’s liquid and accessible, but can it be used as valid financial proof for the DTV?

I run my own business and do not have any income from Thailand, so I believe I meet the other criteria.

But I’m a bit unsure about whether my current documents for proof of funds and income are acceptable when applying in Taiwan.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙏

Can anyone link me to information/requirements and application form for Non Immigrant O visa (retirement) in Taiwan please? I see all other categories on the TTEO (edit: Thai embassy in Taiwan) website except this one. (Note: I am not permanent resident here.)

And if you have any tips/info to share about the process for this visa in Taiwan, that'd be much appreciated.

Thank you!
