I was there on the 13th to get an extension - same experience as the OP - they scanned my passport on the way in. Wasn't required to sign in; I've never done that.
Apologies Alex - they asked to see my flight into and out of Thailand, and proof of lodging but they didn't ask to see any financials (I had 20k on me in baht just in case either the consultant or Immigration asked to see it, but neither did).
Good opportunity to take advantage of the ridiculously cheap business class rates Emirates have on that route as well - cheaper than Cathay economy last time I did it.
