TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion primarily revolves around alternative cities to Vientiane for obtaining a Non-immigrant B visa. Suggestions include Kuala Lumpur (KL), Penang, Hong Kong, Singapore, Ho Chi Minh City, Seoul, and Tokyo. The experiences shared emphasize the importance of having the correct documentation and highlight variations in approval based on nationality and purpose of the visa. Notably, KL is mentioned as favorable for Americans, while Singapore has moved to an online application system, requiring documentation to be submitted beforehand.

Good opportunity to take advantage of the ridiculously cheap business class rates Emirates have on that route as well - cheaper than Cathay economy last time I did it.

I mean a paper pusher. For those few hundred baht extra I won't need to show face and stand in a queue at the embassy. I still have to produce all my documents myself though. I bring them from Thailand, drop them on his desk and next thing I know visa in pasport. I'm using the services of

when you say agent you mean person working at the consulate, correct? You do not mean an agency, correct?

Why are you guys always in such a hurry.... when I go to Penang I stay a week and make it a holiday. Drop my papers at the agent = 2 minutes. Pick-up a few days after = 2 minutes no stress 😎😎😎

yeah. More expensive but one night rather than 3.

Hong Kong also do the pick up in the morning, which is unusual. You can get your passport back from 9:30am, and fly out same day.

Yes I got that after some decoding.... but couldn't resist 😎😎😎

Hong Kong. The whole process takes 20 minutes. About 15 on day one when you drop it off and about 5 when you pick it up on day 2. It is also easy to fly in the morning and go straight to the consulate which is pretty unique as Other locations can't get you there early enough. As a result you can spend about 36 hours in HK.

Is this code language for your alien friends circling Earth and looking for a landing spot?

Some of it depends on if you're getting a Non-B to be a teacher or to work in another field because the criteria is different for them. Another one is what nationality you are because some consulates are biased towards some people even though the country they come from isn't on the list of countries that can't get visas there.

Most consulates will work as long as you check their website first, and as long as the employer gives you all the documentation you need.

I'm American and yes I am a teacher. I am leaning towards Penang and Ho Chi Minh.

I've done it in Perth once also, but rather an expensive option.

KL only 3 month I believe. Penang 1 year for sure. Penang is very nice...

Clarification: Day 1 tried but needed more "proofs"; Day 1 resubmitted and accepted; Day 3 picked up visa.
Thomas **********
I'm an American and I had no trouble in KL. I didn't have all of "the proofs" so they sent me across the street, I used Line to ask my coordinator to fax them, submitted ALL ood the proofs the next day and picked picked it up the next day. If I'd arrived early and all of my proofs had been faxed in a timely fashion, I might have been able to get it done without the extra day. Lessons Learned: have all proofs in hand and arrive early so and problems can be fixed same day.

KL is fine for certain nationalities if you have all the documents correct...

Do you know why KL is so different? (

@Cha****
, Singapore went to online applications back in Feb of this year. They don't do walk ups.

This means you could submit your documentation to them from bangkok and find out if it's gonna fly.

If you got an approval you could fly over and get the visa stamped into your passport.

A lot of the consulates that people say are hard core or one way (Japan, Singapore, etc) aren't. They just want the documentation they want and if you don't provide it you don't get the visa.

It's still an option...you never requested good or bad places just places
Charlie *********
I heard Singapore was a particularly bad place to go...
Jeremy ********
Anywhere there is a Thai embassy/consulate you can get it

that narrowed it down. ;)
