Yes, I heard they want more proof other than a passport to show that you reside at an address there, a document with your address on. And showing I have £1000 entering my bank every would be difficult because I get paid in THB and EUR entering two bank accounts that are not British. So hopefully they will be okay with only accepting the 400k savings. This is my concern.

can you tell me if they would accept a UK driver's license as proof of residency. Even though none of my family reside at that address anymore. Also will they accept 400k in a Thai bank account in my name as proof of funds?

you can check at your local immigration office whether they will be able to convert an exemption stamp to a non-o based on having family members working in Thailand. I think it's possible. It will save you a lot of hassle with going to Laos and making appointments at embassies.

I recommend going to a quiet place like Thakek (no queues, no one goes there, speedy process) getting your exemption stamp and then when the time comes you can either extend it for another two months (using your spouse) or you can convert it to a non-o single entry at your local immigration office. However all immigration offices are different, so go down there when you extend for 2 months and get all the info you need to change to a non-o spousal, this will give you 90 days single entry and you can then extend to 12 months at the same office.

I've been quoted 3000 baht by a private van hire company. Was hoping to get it for under 2k 😕

Which is why I made this post, a shot in the dark you could say, to see if by chance any one of the 70+k members would know any taxi company that would simply pick me up from Laos and take me to the airport in Nakhon Phanom, Thailand because there are no shuttle busses across the border at 6am, no tuk tuks, motorbikes are allowed to cross, nor am I allowed to cross on foot. I'd rent a car but I've been told I would experience a lot of difficulty doing that. So a private taxi is my only hope.
