If what you were saying was true (despite differently worded in law), and you could only stay 180 days once and extend once and then have to get a new visa, it would effectively be a single entry visa, which it isnt. I also in theory get your idea of a 180 balance spread over 5 years - and once that balance is up, so would be the visa. But no information supports this, and such a visa scheme has never existed in Thailand. And that would require a whole lot more infrastructure to administer that.

I agree that it somehow seems to "good" to be true. But we should really stick with the wording of what was published in the Royal Gazette and the official illistrations and statements made the the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and on the Thai E-Visa website. And based on all of that, it is 10k THB for 5 years with unlimitted entries up to 180 days EACH. Additional costs only if extensions in-country are chosen (optionally). Having said that, I am also sceptical on how things might change in the near future. For now, the DTV just seems too open and too open to be "abused".

Agreed with what
@Ba**
said. In the E-Visa system, they merely ask you to upload proof of sufficient funds. I would assume they mean a bank statement in your name from your own country.

I hear you. While in general, the idea of attracting people to spend more time in Thailand spending money makes sense, I also feel that the requirements as known and understood so far seem to be a bit low to be handing out a full 5 year multiple entry visa.

Please stop spreading such misinformation. While some aspects are not fully clear not - i.e. what documents qualify for proof, the general mechanism of the DTV visa is very clear as stated in the law text (which among other things I previously shared). It is a 5 year MULTIPLE entry visa for 10k THB. And within those 5 years you can enter Thailand as many times as you want for up to 180 days - without needing to reapply or to pay another fee. Like every other multiple entry visa works.

The processing time for the DTV is really up to them - as it does not require other, centralized institutions or ministries to be involved, as far as I understand it. Sounds to me as if they themselves are also not sure / well enough informed yet about what exactly to accept as proof regarding the requirements. Other consulates mentioned they were informed the same day the public was about the launch. You are in for a bit of an adventure on this one. But somebody is gotta go first. 🙂

I see. When are you heading there? Keep us updated. Best of luck.

@Kieran ******
Ok. Interesting. All I see is that they shared the launch of the new visa measures on their FB page. Did they mention to you what exactly they would require you to present as proof of sufficient funds and to either meet the remote working or the "soft power" requirement? Cause most consulates have not even figured that out.

Curious: Do you have a source that Penang is ready to issue the DTV to foreigners?

once the visa is issued, you can take whatever flight you want, take any airport or even any land border. Visa is not bound to your originally mentioned entry. That was only the care during COVID when quarantine was required.
