What are the requirements and process for obtaining a Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) from the Thai embassy in Berlin?

DTV Visa was just issued from RTE in Berlin, Germany.

-

What I submitted:

- Biometric Passport Picture

- Copy of both sides of German ID card (“Personalausweis”) with “home” address on it (for proof of location)

- A letter written by myself as owner and director of a company registered in Germany that I am the sole / 100% shareholder of, confirming that I am free to work remotely from everywhere including Thailand and that I have access to company funds exceeding 500k THB + copy of company registration papers (“Handelsregisterauszug” + “Gewerbeanmeldung”).

- One / a most recent bank statement of one of my savings accounts in my personal name with an opening and closing sum in EUR exceeding 500k THB – with all other individual transactions and bank account numbers etc. redacted / black-inked.

-

What I was asked to re-submit:

- A different biometric picture (the first one I uploaded didn’t seem good enough for them, even though the system initially said it was and even though I thought it was just as good as what I have always used before).

- The copy of my German ID card in a color instead of a grayscale scan (even though that same grayscale scan always worked for them before).

-

How long did it take?

After 9 working days, they requested the two changed uploads. Today, after 13 working days the visa was issued – on the day I told them in the form that I would fly to Thailand. Initially, I would have already been in the air to Thailand by now – but had to postpone this flight for different reasons anyways.

-

What to note?

The passport I used expires on a date a few months before the end date of the DTV validity. They noted that in Thai in a Remarks section of the visa. So, I assume, that transferring this visa to a new passport might be tricky – remains to be seen. But even if I will have lost a few months off of it in the end, still a good deal for now. Might switch to LTR soon anyways – depending on taxation and other developments.

-

Hope this information helps others planning to get the DTV from a Thai consulate in Germany, especially the Thai embassy in Berlin. Have a great day everyone.

So is it necessary to be in Germany at the time or would it work to be in a different country (maybe other than Thailand) and receive everything online? Because when I enter for example Vietnam in the list of compatible countries it says it does not work. I was wondering how that would get checked. Thanks!

You will see how happy you will be to live in the country of compromises.

Good luck 👍

One question does the money need to be physically in a bank account or stable coin crypto still fine? Here from Europe, Malta, fully remote, company outside of Malta though

From all I know it needs to be money in a savings account.

I applied via 'soft power' reason - I am currently in Thailand and have a minor monthly recurring cosmetic procedure, so I asked the clinic where I bought the package to issue me a medical certificate letter - usually issued so you can take to your employer, but I asked them to write it for visa purposes. Essentially they wrote that I had monthly medical appointments for the next 6 months. While I have an LLC it seemed much easier to go the soft power option.

Thanks a lot for sharing the text. So you you apply as an employee and not as a freelancer? I will apply as an employee (not my.compamy) and your text is quite useful.

No that's great and I'm happy for you. But do we really want to encourage a massive influx?

I am not a big fan of mass tourism, either. But more than that I occasionally criticize the quality of the tourism more than its quantity. It is a double edged sword. Luckily, there are still nice places to be found in Thailand where one can avoid the big and wrong crowds. So, with your permission … I would like to enter. 😄😉

Hey, thanks for sharing! I’m in a similar position, you didn’t need to submit any salary certificate or anything showing your monthly compensation? I only take dividends and not sure what to say if they ask for what my monthly income is.
Frank-Steven ***********

@Daniel ************
Did not have to prove any monthly income. That is also not part of the official requirements in the law - sufficient proof of at least 500k THB in savings is enough.

Congrats. Transferring visas to a new passport not that difficult in my experience.
Frank-Steven ***********

@Andi **********
We will see how that might be possible. Not sure of the RTE could / would issue a new visa for the new passport then, or if local immigration could do anything with an eVisa.
Andi ***********
@Frank-Steven **********
Strange if they did not issue a new one. Otherwise you have to carry the old and new passport.
