When does the 6-month period for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) in Thailand begin?

Never used a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) before, so I gotta ask to be sure. It is my understanding, that with a METV I can cross borders into Thailand as many times as I like within a period of 6 months - and each time around would get stamped in for a duration of 60 days. So far so good. What I am not quite sure is: When exactly does this 6 months period start: a) from the time the e-visa is issued by the embassy / consulate, or b) from the time I actually would first make use of it / doing my first border crossing with it into Thailand? Anybody knows?

With the regular TR Tourist Visa, one had one period (90 days) within the country needed to be enetered, plus the actual validity of the permitted / stamped in stay, then. So I am wondering, if I get a METV now, and do my first border crossing in - say - 2 months, would I then have an additional 6 months to go in and out, or would then only 4 months remain by that time?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The 6-month validity period for a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (METV) begins from the date the visa is issued, rather than from the date of the first entry into Thailand. Therefore, regardless of when you first use the visa, the 6-month countdown starts at issuance.

You can add 30 days to every 60 days for 1900b at your local Immigration Office. So only leave every 90 days.

U can even stay 8 months with this visa, as u can get stamp for 60 days 1 day before the expiring date of the visa. Keep in mind that u will still have to do thai pass and insuarance before each entry.

Sounds doable. I always have applicable health insurance (this requirement may even be there to stay). And the Thai Pass will likely be gone soon. The only annoying part is to head to a border every 60 days. But I am sure this can be made fun by combining it with motorcycle tours into the various neighboring countries.

6 months starts the day the visa is issued.

..sir...since covid extensions are now until July 24,...is it necessary to go to immigration if on a 30 day extension?....thank you for your advice ..
Stuart *********
Robert Nestor Absolutely. You need to sort out extensions for your stay, if you intend to stay longer than 30 days.

... thank you sir it was my understanding that because of covid extension to July 24th that people didn't have to go until July 24th. thank you

Robert Nestor No. There is no amnesty. You still have to go and arrange an extension for your stay.

if you time it right you can get almost 9 months out of that visa. Border hop on the last few days of its validity and you get a further 60 days plus a 30 day extension.

Might do that this year. Was hoping for the new LTR visa (as I would qualify in basically all its categories), but is seems this isn't moving beyond talk and empty promises once again, unfortunately.
