an extension is cheap and easy for the people that have all the correct documents but many people got their DTV using 6 month courses and they haven't paid for another 6 months so they can't get an extension. Also many people no longer have the equivalent 500k baht in their bank, these people also can't do an extension. There only option is a border run
I'm Australian as well. I have lived in Thailand for 3 years. I'm not doing a tax return here. Everyone I know that lives here more than 180 days is not doing one.
At worst, let's say they do end up trying to tax us here. Australia already has a tax agreement with Thailand so we get a tax credit anyway
I'm interested to see if an extension is possible with that course. I get the feeling that immigration won't give extensions on it with some Thai embassies rejecting it for DTV. I guess we will find out soon. If it works then it's a very cheap course for 5 years 🙂
