USA arrived Bangkok on 90 day non-imm O visa December 4. Over 50 and intend to retire here. Decided to go to open bank account today. Went to Bang kaput mall, 3 different banks. Kbank, krungsri and Bangkok bank. All 3 had different rules and requirements. None allowed me to open account. I supplied passport, 90 day Non-O visa hard , copy, invoice of Condo I’m renting, TM30 and prepared to transfer 800,000 baht. No good. Lease contract needed. Bangkok bank wanted a lease contract of at least 6 months. Ongoing theme was they wanted the visa in the passport stamped as retirement visa. My visa was stamped and in writing on the visa stamp was “Evisa” and “non-O” with the date set for March 3, 2026.
Any suggestions on where or what else I need to do to open an account? I will not be using an illegal agency.
Quick question, will my TM30 be valid if the land lord files it like 5 days prior to my arrival?
I rent a house with my wife, however I don’t stay in Thailand much as I have to Work in the USA while we wait on my wife’s US CR1 visa process, and I mentioned to them I’ll need the TM30.
However they want my passport page now, as if they want to do it now.
I won’t be staying long enough to have to do 90 day reporting, but I will have to get a certificate of residence to update my drivers licenses, as my first 2 years ends in February.
Concerned them doing it ahead of time will somehow cause problems later.
Hey everyone. I'm in Thailand on a DTV and I was wondering what the process is of buying a motorcycle. I've been renting for a few months, but planning on buying one for myself. Do I need a resident certificate? Insurance? Registration? I've seen a lot of mentions of "green book" too. Anything I should be vary or mindful of?
It appears that Chaengwattana did indeed change their process for getting a certificate of residence.
Before you showed up (with a valid TM30) applied for it, paid 200baht, got a receipt with an EMS tracking number on it and they mailed the certificate to you in about 5 days
NOW
You go out, (still need a current TM30) you apply, get a receipt with a date a week out to come back and pick up the certificate in person :O <- meaning you go out there twice (once to apply and once to pick it up) :(
Thank you for the people who questioned me when I was saying they still mailed them out (y) You guys (and gals) were right :) they changed the process and I was not dialed in.
My apologies to Bangkokianz for getting it wrong :/
Quick question - can I use my International Driving Permit (IDP) to apply for a Thai driver’s license and TM30, or do I need to wait until after my first 90-day report?
