JFYI Post

Visited the immigration office at Blue Tree, Phuket today to get the Certificate of Residence for myself and my wife.

We submitted our TM30 and passport with entry stamp — they didn’t ask for our DTV printout.

We were charged 1,000 baht each and told to collect the certificate the next day. It’s all done quickly and smoothly.

We needed the document for vehicle purchase and Thai driving license.

However, I’ve seen posts here mentioning 300–500 baht fees and a one-week wait.

Just wondering — did we overpay, or is this the new standard now?

As for renewing driving licenses, you get 2year with DTV not 5year, I guess this was expected as its a tourist visa, but I had some hopes because its 5year visa 😝

And for requirements, on DLT website it says certificate of residence but no, you need the same paper from IO that you needed when you got your first license (for motorbike, and car, different papers).

The officer at transportation office said, and wrote on my appointment letter that I need 1 cert and 1 copy of it. A bit confusing since i renew motorbike and car. Car they check both boxes in 1 paper?

I have never renewed a license here before, so of course obvious things for some people, but just FYI for people like me...

You also need to print out the certificate of your 1hour training, showing from phone is not enough.

Those on DTV in Phuket. Did you have to wait 90 days before you could get certificate of residence at immigration to buy a motorbike?

Certificate of residence with a dtv visa

Bangkok office

Before you go make sure you have the following:

Passport

Copy of passport x2

Copy of entry stamp x2

90 day not required if you’ve not had to do one

E visa printout x2

Copy of lease/ rent agreement

Printout of TM30

฿200 per certificate

All in all a fairly painless process. I originally went down and asked at the information desk as I was needing 4 certificates. (2 for licenses, 1 for transferring a vehicle, and one because the bank asked for it (not a basic savings account)).

Once you’ve got all the relevant documents together and got down to immigration at the government complex it’s a fairly swift process. They’ll check all your documents and give you a receipt and your passport back. It only took about an hour most of that was waiting till my number was called. They’ll said it would be posted to that address and it arrived in 4 days.

Can anyone recommend an agent that will do the leg work to go to Chang Wattana and apply for the Certificate of Residence at a reasonable price? Can provide all the docs required.

If you want to open a bank account it is very straight forward. Got to an immigration office and apply for a certificate of residence, after providing the relevant documents they will then ask you which bank you want to open an account with and they will provide a letter.

Don’t use an agent, don’t listen to everyone saying it’s impossible, it’s easy you just need the correct paperwork.

Banks are very happy to accommodate you when you provide the required documents.
