fair enough, but personally I wouldn't bother. My drivers licence has worked for me.

but your Thai Drivers Licence already serves as Id for situations like hotels, airlines (domestic), police traffic stops etc. It also has your passport number shown on it.

wrong I keep two accounts. One only hold a little over 800k. Just in case I get hit by an unexpected tax, or similar.

I got a residence certificate at my local immigration in about 15 minutes and 200 baht tea money.

I believe I got an initial 3 months and then you start doing 12 month extensions. It was not hard, just ask your local immigration what is required. But I already had a bank account because I initially came in on an OA visa.

I opened a separate account for my visa money. So there are only a couple of transactions each year.

Don't you need to get the re-entry permit from Thai immigration before you leave Thailand, or you will have to start your visa process all over again? Or am I missing something?
