Do I need to deposit 800,000 baht in a Thai bank for my O-A visa extension?

I am returning to Thailand tomorrow on my multi entry O-A visa. The visa expires in mid Feb 2024. My question relates to the banked money component of my extension. I thought I did not need to put the 800k baht into a Thai bank, the same as when I got the O-A visa. But my local Immigration officer said I will need to bank the money, and the websites I have searched don't really address the extension requirements. Has anyone gone through this process and can confirm that I can leave my money in Aus for the extension. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on whether they need to deposit 800,000 baht into a Thai bank account for an extension of their multi-entry O-A visa, which is valid until mid-February 2024. Some commenters confirm that to apply for a one-year extension, the funds must be in a Thai bank account for two months prior to the extension application, despite having shown funds in an Australian bank when initially obtaining the visa. The conversation includes information about medical insurance requirements and the re-entry process.

Dear members, Please read the whole original post before you make a comment..

When going out and back before visa expire, you need to show a new medical insurance certificate for 1 year to get the 12 months.

When you re-enter Thailand you will be stamped in for another 12 months. However, ensure your insurance is also valid for 12 months or you will only be stamped in up to the expiry date of your current insurance

You can cross out of Thailand the day before your visa expires and get another year of stay inside Thailand as long as you have insurance for that year. As to getting an extension the immigration officer is correct, you can't avoid putting money in a Thai bank

As long as your visa is still valid you will get 1 year of stay, time enough to arrange all the needs to meet the requirements next year

If you want to apply for 1-year extension inside Thailand, you need to have your funds of 800k baht in your Thai bank account for two months before your application date because the Australian Embassy in Thailand doesn't issue affidavits anymore.

Criteria are clear in police order. (and this "evidence of monthly income" is the one that is provided by your embassy as an affidavit in Thailand. This part is set by each immigration office)

As you said you have Non-OA valid until Feb 2024, if that is the date of "valid until" on your visa sticker, you can re-enter Thailand on or before that date to be stamped in for a whole new 365 days (or until your insurance is valid). You can get some more time to think about your next move.

it seems strange that I can show money in an Australian bank / superannuation account to get my O-A visa, but that is not accepted for the extension. Instead I have to revert to having 800k baht in my Thai bank account for 2 months.

, You applied for your Non-OA at the Thai embassy in Australia. You will apply for an extension at the local immigration office. Those are different entities.

You can also consider getting a Non-OA every two years so that you don't have to have funds inside Thailand.
