The purpose of having 800,000 baht in an account is so you have funds, if required, for emergency treatment.

For a bank to decide to have access to these funds frozen is totally against the reason why immigration want a foreigner to have a considerable amount available at all times.

Requirements in Thailand by different organisations seem contradictory at times.

Another example is organising an O visa and having a bank account - the old chicken and egg dilemma.

Agree.

Many things in Thailand can seem to take forever along with hurdles.

Different immigration offices interpret the law differently.

Has been extended from June 30 to December 31 based on popularity, they have said.

I applied yesterday application takes 4-8 weeks.

Application costs zero.

Once approved you pay.

Once you receive a welcome letter after that the clock starts.

Easiest and fastest solution to long term stay is a 5 year elite visa.

Yes, it may seem expensive at 650k baht however for most other type visas you are required to lock up a larger amount.

The elite has no medical requirements and comes with some privileges too.

Google it to learn more.

And more prohibitive to get.

Have retired and do not have a high enough residual income stream to qualify.

Am aware it's not cheap @ 650k baht ( more like 10k for 60 months ) however application is simple, is no upfront deposit held requirements and is my call on health insurance.

Other upsides are that I am only charged if the visa is approved, and I get to pay for after approval

At met at Swampy immigration by a special elite department officer and given

Letters of introduction to bank and for drivers and riders licences.

Is a no fuss strategy, for me anyways.
