How much does it usually cost for an agent to help you get your visa?
Answer summary
The cost of hiring an agent to assist with visa applications in Thailand varies widely, typically ranging from 5,000 to over 50,000 baht. Factors affecting the cost include the type of visa (e.g., retirement or NON-O), whether the applicant has all required documentation, and the level of service provided by the agent. Many participants suggest doing the application oneself if possible, as it can be significantly cheaper, while others advocate for the convenience of using an agent, especially for those less familiar with the process.

Mine is now 20,000 for my annual retirement visa. But visa agent handles everything, including the 90 day reports. I only go to immigration once a year, all reports are done by my agency. It is worth it for peace of mind and convenience.

Why do so many people need an agent ?

I know the illegal fudge for the Bt800k but if you do things legally, there is no need for an agent.

You can apply for a retirement visa from many countries before you come to Thailand. It’s easy to do yourself and is online. You do have to show police and medical records. Check on the immigration web site at your countries Thai embassy website. You need the correct funds in your account as well. If you can’t do that for whatever reason then apply for a 90 day non o visa. Again easy to do online. Then apply in Thailand for the retirement visa. You’ll need to start by opening a bank account and moving funds into it. Thai Visa Centre are very good. They do most stuff online but you could visit them. Also Siam legal have an office near nana station. Thai Kru offer full packages including visa bank and accommodation. There are plenty of other options, You’ll have to ask about cost but probably about 20k bht including the visa cost. People will tell you that you can do it yourself in Thailand but I have no experience of that.

12-15k in Pattaya for retirement renewal. Less (7k) if you have all paperwork but can't or do not want to go to Immigration yourself.

Bob Erends i like what you say. Last dec when i renewed my retirement visa as i call it i was dreading it for the first time cos i argued with them about their now charging TO DO a re-entry visa, not for the visa its self. I have a long memory so do they. I gave all my stuff to my thai wife to check for me, got my bank stuff the day before, for my O visa retirement visa its allowed, and off we went. Well i got a very nice funny as i was with him and it was a lovely experience. I thanked him and said i woukd happily give 1000b next time to have him process my paper work. Never saw the cow in the office at all , hopefully she's gone for good.

There is no need to block 800,000 baht in a bank !

You simply need to provide proof of a minimum monthly income of 65,000 baht, certified by your embassy in Bangkok.

Patric Bredimus They really do not know Thailand and Thai banks. Even no Thais put their money in Thai banks. They do not recognize Thailand too. Thailand can evict any foreigner at any time for any reason. It is just question of time. or just lucky draw. Regardless of any visa or permit, even all in order, they can kick any foreigner out of Thailand. No objection is possible. Immigration is totally on the decision of the country. No questions no arguments. That is why foreigners should be ready to leave Thailand at any time. It actually does not matter if you use agent or do it alone. but using agent makes much more higher pass rate.

Todd McGowan in all honesty if someone doesn’t have 800k in bank I don’t think they can afford to live in Thailand

20k-35k first time .

Then renewel around 10k-15k.

Best get agent to do it .

They have contacts and do it faster .

Less headaches for you .

And no need to wait in immigration all day then to find out you have something wrong .

Just get an agent and pay .

I had two consultations for an LTR with an extremely cut-and-dry situation. The big-name agency quoted ~$1,800. The lesser-known agency quoted ~1,200. I pondered over all the notes from the consultations and found a Facebook info group related to the Visa I wanted. After reading some of the member testimonials, I chose not to use an agency.

start your application in June or July. It can take 1-2 months to complete the application and once it's approved that approval is valid for 60 days. Then you can decide how you want to collect your visa.

I think getting it in Bangkok is the best option because you only pay exactly 50,000 baht directly to immigration (most embassies charge more) and it'll be an actual visa in your passport.

If you get it from an embassy it's going to be a pdf document that you have to print and carry with you for 10 years.

Simple answer. All depends how much the Immigration officer wants for your case to get approved. Then, the agent will figure out a price for the amount of work they have to do. The agent will then add everything and give you the cost. SO, it depends…

IMO if you are ok for a visa and don’t need any shortcuts you don’t need an agent ?

I have had no problems at all getting my 1 years visas for the last 2 years without an agent for much less the price you are talking about here?

Please explain the difficulty if you who apply have all the requirements to get the visa from the Thai embassy

That depends on a lot of factors.

Visa based on what? Retirement is the most common so will be the cheapest.

Did you get the 90-day non-O before coming to Thailand, and just need the agent for the extension? That will be significantly cheaper than if you come as a tourist and need the agent to do the conversion to non-O first.

Are you using your own money in the bank or is the agent covering that aspect for you? That will affect the pricing.

Are you wanting them to do EVERYTHING or are you willing to go to the immigration office and just have them do all of the paperwork for you?

and on and on and on

i'm definitely doing a retirement visa. I'll be there in May for three weeks. It'll be our second visit. I was just wondering if it would be helpful to touch base with an agent while I'm there. I have all the stipulations, the money the social security. I'm sure it's probably pretty easy.I don't know if it's smart for me to try to do it myself.
Jay *******

Wade Freier if you're just coming for a visit this trip it would be good to touch base with an agent. Find one you are comfortable with before you make the move and need to get business done.

Wade Freier If you have the money in bank, just do it in your home country.
Donald **********
Donald **********
Wade Freier You won’t achieve it in 3 weeks without an agent. Normally you need to come in on a Non-O 90 day retirement visa, open a bank account (simplified version), deposit 800k baht and wait 2 months for that to season prior to applying for the 12 months extension based on retirement. You could also buy a single re-entry permit and once the 800k baht is deposited, leave and return when it is seasoned (within the validity period of your Non-O visa) and apply for your 12 month extension based on retirement.
Greg *********
Greg *********
Wade Freier Do a Non O in your country before coming. You should be able to open a bank account. You need a phone in Thailand and your TM30 to get started along with required documents. Best to go to immigration to double check what you will need
