TLDR : Answer Summary
Opening a bank account in Thailand with an entry visa (such as a tourist visa) can be problematic. Many commenters noted that using just an entry visa typically does not suffice, as banks often require a more stable visa status, such as a Non-O visa. While some agents may offer assistance under certain conditions, there are significant limitations. For instance, accounts opened with insufficient visa status can be frozen. It is generally advisable to discuss this directly with banks or consider applying for a longer-term visa to facilitate the process.

Some agents can help you to open a bank account. Yes, very sure of this. About hiring agents, regardless of what other people say, simple thing with hiring agent is, if you have enough money or good money to hire agents, you can save a lot of times and energy. And no need to get a stress and hassle with very friendly and reasonable Thai banks and authorities. They are so friendly and reasonable, so that all foreigners can do it by themselves in so easy way. But if you have money, agent will do all for you. What you will do is just thinking of what would you do for your life. If you do not have enough money for agent, you have to do all by yourself. It costs nothing but it just costs your working. You have to work on it. Not bad at all. You can save a lot of money!!
some agents still can do it, I heard. but, after you got thai bank account, your Thai bank can close or freeze your account at any time. then, the agent can not do anything for this. Just refer to this. Agent can open an account for you, that is all.
Tyler Nolin i myself want a bank account as i go there 3 or 4 times a year and will retire there in 5 years would like to build up account every time i go thats my reason for wanting one
Shannon Tes Build up your money in your home country and get a decent return on your savings. When you're ready to come, get a non-immigrant visa, open a bank account and transfer your savings
Tyler Nolin I think you missed the point. He’s not doing any exchange. He’s accumulated stacks of cash in Thailand and needs a safe place to keep it. ‘Hypothetically’
Simple answer NO. First opening a bank account is easy. Just walk in with passport, visa, address and money to pay in. In the banks they speak very good English.
Do it the right way, Retirement Visa after the age of fifty, apply for a non 0 visa first then two weeks after that you can get a retirement Visa , show proof of residency go to Thai immigration and get them to give you a document showing you can open a bank account go to a bank with the Immigration document,my preference is Kasikorn Bank there are other pathways also like a marriage Long-Term Visa: Non-immigrant visas (B, O, ED, O-A, O-X), LTR, or Thai Elite Visa.
Valid Passport: Must have at least 6 months validity.
Proof of Address: A certificate of residence from Thai Immigration is the best option. A Certificate of Residence from your embassy or a signed lease agreement can also work.
Thai Mobile Phone Number: Necessary for banking apps and security.
Additional Docs: Sometimes a work permit, student letter, or reference letter from your home bank is needed.
Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo there is no such thing as a retirement Visa. It is an extension of stay based on a number of criteria one of which is being over 50. It is valid for 12 months.
Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo 😂😂😂😂😂 there is nothing such as a 12-months retirement visa. There only is a 12-months extension of temporary stay permit based on being over 50/retirement
Greg Alexander I already see you're one of those kind of people that doesn't like to help people all you do is criticize I was just trying to help this gentleman with his question these are options for staying in Thailand long term. I have a Thai wife and will be changing my Visa in the next year
Leonard Kingston Miragliuolo you do not have a visa anymore, dude. You are on an 1-year extended stay permit. That Non-O Visa you started with became invalid when you entered Thailand, dude. That's a fact, dude 😂😂😂
I don't really know of any agents that can open accounts for tourists anymore. Some of them will still do it if you're converting to a non-O visa from a tourist visa though and you're paying them for the whole package. Even then it's like 20,000 baht just for the bank account.
Do not use third party for handling your account in Thailand and anywhere in the world. Its a dead trap waiting fr you. Why is so desperate. Take your time and DRIFT (do it right in the first time)
Young TVC with all due respect that you declared that you hs bn in business fr 20 years and members still asking the same basic questions of course TVC is good but that is not good enough
Ah Cheong Ah Cheong visa has nothing to do with your bank account if your bank account was opened according to the bank rules. Again, when you opened your account, you have a valid visa or permit there, so your bank opened your account. But later your visa expired or you do not have any visa for any reason, your bank account still valid on. There are some foreigners who do not have visa or even not in Thailand at all for years, but they invested a lot of money through Thai banks, so their accounts are all closed?
Young Banks are unlikely to regularly check the validity of your visa unless government policy changes. As long as your bank transaction records are normal, they shouldn't be alarmed.
