Do I need to get something from Thai immigration to open a 2nd bank account?
Answer summary
To open a second bank account in Thailand, expats typically need a combination of documents such as their passport, a valid visa (e.g., retirement visa), and sometimes a residence certificate from Thai immigration. However, requirements can vary by bank, and some banks may also ask for a Thai SIM card registered in the expat's name or other identification. It is advisable to check with the specific bank in advance to confirm exact requirements, as some banks and branches might have differing policies.

It depends if you have a proper visa to open a Thai account here or you did it when you still could on tourist visas. If you are on a yearly visa, you should have all the paperwork you need to open another easily. Your biggest problem now is if you are just on a DTV visa still because they changed it to nearly as useless as a tourist visa to get legal Thai documents like bank accounts.

In the SCB app you can create a second account on your own

Ask your bank first. Some have a ridiculous "one-account-per-foreigner-policy".

I have had bank accounts with several banks ( due to my teaching work ) I still have accounts with Kasikorn and Bangkok Bank. Never a problem opening them. Only bank to refuse me was KrungThai They told me it was for Thais only. My pension is paid into WISE then I transfer it to my Thai bank. Bangkok Bank use to take hours, sometimes days to transfer my money. So I changed to Kasinkorn and the transfer is immediate ( minutes )

It really depends on the specific bank (teller) and their mood on that day more than anything 🙂 If at first you dont succeed, try-try-try again

Users are experiencing significant issues with Wise transfers to Bangkok Bank, often incorrectly tagged as local transfers ('DEP TRF FR E-CH') instead of international funds transfers ('FTT'), complicating visa documentation.

Stop making unfounded statements based on hearsay and what you hear and read.

The post that refers to you as a cheap Charlie is based on your negativity to agents.

Believe it or not, if you ask immigration what is required they appreciate it and will usually help you out

I am not implying I am am better than you. Perhaps your paranoia is kicking in. All I am saying is we are all free to make a choice to boost our skills and all the benefits that brings or de-skill by only learning how to pay a bill, with all the downsides of that. Your other comment about people looking for cheaper options and your use of the label Cheap Charlie should tell you why people probably choose to avoid you too.
Bill *********
Bill *********
Richard Humphrey Anyone can make mistakes, sure. I'll take that chance. Just because you don't like agents doesn't mean they're automatically corrupt and untrustworthy. I've known my agent for years, her and her family live in my building, and they have helped me out in so many ways. Hummm... So you're implying that you're better than me? That's a laugh. People like you remind me how wise it is to keep my circle of expat friends pretty small and tight. Too many think they're special.
Richard **********
Richard **********
@Bill ********
unregulated and untrustworthy. They can make mistakes too, then you try and get them to accept any liability when immigration holds you to account for their mistakes. Agents are just corruption by another name. Oh, and the cheapest people go around using the term Cheap Charlies, whilst the best of people do not.
Bill *********

Richard Humphrey Navigating immigration in no way gives me a better life. Quite the opposite. Anything immigration related is always delegated to my agent.

For immigration purposes, you will only require your retirement visa or passport, along with a valid identification card or driver's license from your country of origin. A phone number registered in your name is also necessary, as it facilitates scheduling appointments at your preferred KK Bank branch via customer service. The entire process was completed efficiently within 30 minutes.

Marianne Holmen I tried to help a friend a few months ago and i speak very good Thai. They just said it's classed as tourist visa now so very hard and I tried a few branches with him, even with people I know working at one. It's a scary thing for people on DTV visas here if they decide to block everyone's accounts. It happened last year to alot of people like me on non O visas because they didn't read their emails to connect their new Thai phone numbers. Luckily my wife noticed the email or I could have had my money in my local accounts blocked for some time.
