TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the experiences of individuals regarding changing their bank branch after moving within Thailand. Many participants affirm that it is advisable to change to a bank branch closer to their new residence for convenience, as some banks may charge fees for using ATMs outside of their branch area. While some expats report being able to maintain their original accounts with ease at any branch, others find it necessary to open a new account at the local branch or travel back to their original one for specific services. Some comments also mention that banks in Thailand operate somewhat independently, which can affect how services are accessed across different branches.
I have a Bangkok branch Kasikorn account but have lived in Pattaya for 16 years with no need to change branch. A Pattaya branch handled everything I needed including debit card
my hunband don't change because ATM, mobile bank can use for everywhere and bank branch can do same ,only ATM or on counter have to pay some fee if want take money out
I was told I couldn't change Bangkok Bank to another branch but they opened a new account for me and cancelled and transfered the monies to the new account...a few years ago though.
cause if u have issues you have to go to the branch where you opened your account. Even though banks have the same name they run independently of each other
Alan Lockhart 20 years ago I opened an account at the main office of BKK bank in Silom rd. I live in Pinklao. Never had to visit the main office. If I need a new passbook, I visit one of the branches across my condo and get it on spot. Once I messed up with my password and they gave me a new card. I do everything online with the application.
Colin Chaffers my Bueng Kan Bangkok bank branch cut me a new card for my Chiang Mai branch with no trouble. But I dud have to go to Chiang Mai in person to verify my telephone last year. Wasn't a problem because I needed an excuse for a couple of weeks in CM anyway.
