What Brandon said. But you only need to put that lump sum aside for the first extension.

Once that gets approved you can start your monthly international transfers so that when it comes time for your second (and subsequent) extensions you show your bank statement with 12 months of international transfers for the monthly income method.

It’s not backwards nor confusing, it’s people like us using the wrong language.

You apply for the initial 90 day visa from your home country using funds in your home country bank.

That will get you the visa.

After you arrive, you will use that non-O visa to open a Thai bank account where you will place the funds necessary to process your annual extension of stay before your 90 days expires.

Initial visa and annual extension of stay are basically two different processes and should be thought of as two different concepts.

But people conflate them by saying clever things like “you need a visa to open a bank account but you can’t get a bank account unless you have a visa”. It’s just not true.

The non-o is one of the visas that guarantees you can open a bank account here in Thailand. If an employee at a bank told you otherwise then they are misinformed and you need to talk to their supervisor.

So it’s not usually explained in detail but most nomads work for a company or client in their home country. That’s the only way to enjoy the cost of living difference between home and Thailand. Earn money back home, spend it here.

Nongnuch Kamdee yeah was definitely not on the Chonburi list and this is the first I’ve seen it in any of these groups. Good to know for when we move.

Stephen Howell thanks, new one on me. Surely a waste of time wishing the offices that honor that would just say so.

The 400k lump or 40k monthly transfer is for the marriage visa.

800k or 65k monthly are the requirements for retirement.

Monthly transfers only after the first extension of course.

Shelly Anne FWIW Non-Os tend to be approved within a week or so if your documents are correct. I had to submit documents a second time and mine was still granted in 8 days or so.

With LA I had to show the $20k and two months of bank statements showing the minimum deposit amount.

At the time I applied there was nothing on the website about showing the bank statements so initially I just submitted the statement showing $20,000.

They followed up asking for two months worth of bank statements showing the minimum deposit amount, I gave it to them, four days later the visa was approved. Took six or seven days total.

Sounds like they may have gotten a little clearer on their requirements by requesting three months worth of statements upfront.

But I had to show both the lump sum and the monthly income for my initial approval.
